... Read moreMaking this Biscuits & Gravy Casserole has become one of my favorite weekend breakfast traditions. The beauty of this dish is how it brings together classic Southern flavors into an easy-to-make casserole that feeds a crowd. One thing I’ve learned from experience is that using buttermilk biscuits instead of regular refrigerated biscuits really makes the casserole fluffier and adds a subtle tang that complements the savory sausage and peppered gravy. When preparing the sausage, try adding a pinch of fresh sage or extra black pepper to elevate the flavor even more. I also like to make the gravy with homemade drippings when possible, as it adds depth beyond just using water, but the gravy mix works great when you’re short on time. For a richer touch, stir in a tablespoon of butter at the end of your gravy simmering. Assembling the casserole is straightforward, and cutting the biscuit dough into quarters helps the biscuits bake evenly and soak up all the delicious flavors from the sausage and gravy. Once baked, the eggs set everything beautifully while the shredded cheddar cheese melted on top provides a golden, appetizing crust. I often serve this casserole with a few dashes of hot sauce or fresh chopped herbs like chives or parsley to add brightness. It pairs wonderfully with a glass of fresh orange juice or a warm cup of coffee. This recipe is versatile–feel free to customize it by adding cooked vegetables, like bell peppers or spinach, to sneak in some extra nutrition. Overall, this Biscuits & Gravy Casserole is a cozy, satisfying dish that combines comfort and convenience. Whether you’re making it for a holiday brunch or a lazy Sunday morning, it’s sure to become a household favorite.
