... Read moreGreen bean casserole is a classic comfort food staple that’s especially popular during holiday dinners, but it’s simple enough to enjoy year-round. When I make this creamy green bean casserole, I love using French-style green beans from the can for convenience, but fresh green beans lightly steamed would also work well if you prefer a fresher taste and firmer texture. Adding grated Parmesan cheese into the casserole mix gives it a subtle tang and richness that elevates the dish beyond the typical cream of mushroom base. One kitchen trick I’ve found helpful is to not let the casserole mixture get too thick before baking; if it feels dense, adding a splash of milk can help maintain creaminess while baking. Baking at 350°F for around 20-25 minutes allows the flavors to meld nicely, and topping with crispy fried onions at the end adds a delicious crunchy texture contrast. For an extra flavor boost, shredded Colby Jack cheese on top before the final bake adds gooey, melty goodness. This casserole pairs incredibly well with hearty main dishes such as roasted chicken, turkey, or even crockpot chicken recipes. Using a Dutch oven is great for even cooking, but a regular baking dish works just fine as well. If you want to experiment with flavors, consider stirring in cooked bacon bits or swapping out the mushroom soup for cream of chicken for a different twist. This recipe’s versatility and quick prep time make it a go-to side dish when you want something tasty, creamy, and easy to prepare that your family will love.
