This Year’s Met Gala Theme will be BLACK 🖤
The 2025 Met Gala, set for Monday, May 5, celebrates the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
This theme delves into the rich history and cultural significance of Black men’s fashion, particularly through the lens of dandyism. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibition showcases garments, paintings, photographs, and more, tracing the evolution of Black men’s style from the 18th century to the present day.
The dress code for the event is “Tailored for You,” encouraging guests to interpret the theme through personalized takes on menswear and tailoring.
This approach highlights the artistry and individuality inherent in tailored fashion, emphasizing how Black individuals have transformed self-presentation into a form of cultural expression and resistance. 
Co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as the honorary chair.
