Charcoal Drawings

Since the new semester is coming up I thought I’d share some of my charcoal drawings I’ve made while studying fine art. My favorite one would prob be the second still life. I feel like i did a good job with the shading and lighting, and the proportions aren’t too off (the boot does bother me a bit tho lol). These are all on 16x24 paper but the figure drawings are on newsprint paper.

Charcoal is one of my favorite ways to learn how to draw but I hateeee the texture of it on my fingers😭. What’s your favorite art medium?

... Read moreCharcoal drawing is a fascinating art form that allows artists to express themselves with a rich, bold medium. It is perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike, due to its versatility and ease of use. To create stunning charcoal artworks, one essential tip is to master the shading technique. Start by controlling the pressure on your charcoal stick for various tonal effects; lighter pressure results in subtle shades while heavier pressure provides deeper contrast. Also, experimenting with different types of paper can greatly affect the outcome of your drawing. Newsprint is excellent for practicing sketches, whereas specially textured papers can enhance the depth of shading in finished pieces. Alongside your charcoal piece, consider incorporating mixed media—adding pastels can create vibrant highlights and shadows that bring your work to life. Don't shy away from mistakes; the beauty of charcoal is that it easily allows erasing and blending. Learning to embrace the unique characteristics of charcoal will help you develop your own unique style. Additionally, sharing your drawings on platforms like Lemon8 can encourage feedback from fellow artists and enthusiasts. Engaging with the art community can provide new perspectives and inspire further creativity. What medium will you explore next?

Your second still life is sooo good! I love how you drew the figure, the aura is insane! I think my fav medium is acrylic paint but specifically paint markers, i just graduated from uni and majored in drawing and used a lot of those in my work :)) keep up the great work!! 💕
