The real TRUTH about WEGOVY

So this one is a tough one..namely because you can throw a rock on TikTok and find hundreds if not thousands of people who make amazing claims about the miracle drug which is Semiglutide!!

I started my Semiglutide journey August of 2023. It was a compounded version that I received from my local weight loss clinic. My starting weight was at 243 lbs and was roughly a size 14-16 but was still pouring myself into anything with spandex or stretch material. The purpose was not vanity reasons but was initially because my husband (I’m newly married) and I were thinking about having another baby. I wanted my body to be able to sustain a healthy pregnancy and be able to support additional weight gain.

At the time I didn’t know that my medical insurance covered Wegovy and was paying out of pocket to try the compounded version. I didn’t see much results but I could definitely feel the difference in my eating habits for a short while! I sustained about a 8 lb loss but the scale didn’t move much after that. Now mind you I hadn’t changed my diet much and the first 8 lbs that I lost I lost in the first month I took the compound.

It was around November when I visited my gynecologist who referred me to an endocrinologist to help me with symptoms of PCOS and to help me with the journey of possibly having another little one. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2019 and the older I get it seems the symptoms worsen.

Once we ran some initial tests, Wegovy enters the chat. Now by this time I was 1 stage away from the 2.4mg maintenance dose so it was very easy for me to get!

My first 3 months on Wegovy 2.4 the weight seemed like it was falling off, but when I got closer to my milestone weight plateaus!!!

I began looking VERY closely at my behaviors because I did NOT want to GLP-1 hop from drug to drug and here is what I learned:

1. You MUST make the right food choices. If you are eating the same junk but less of it your body will respond with no movement! CHANGE YOUR FREAKING DIET

2. You CAN still gain weight on GLP-1! There are places in my trend reports that once I started tackling my eating the scale began to move, when I slacked the scale moved upwards.

3 . Hormones play a role! My endocrinologist and gynecologist established the best combination of medications that would help treat the insulin resistance caused by my PCOS and issues related to my cycles. It was an experience resulting in some challenges but we are overcoming.

4. I’ve been on Wegovy for one year, everyone’s body and challenges are different! Like gastric bypass surgery most people that undergo surgery lose weight really quickly in the beginning because of the restrictions of the amount they can eat however over time if they continue with more of the same foods and garbage they eventually gain the weight back!

Ultimately I am proud of my progress but have learned there’s more to this journey than just a weekly prick to the stomach. It’s not a magical solution, but it is EXTREMELY helpful when your mindset is to make a total life change!

I plan to remain on Wegovy until I reach my desired healthy goal. I’m currently a comfortable size 8 which is definitely nothing to sneeze at from a 14!

I urge you all to consider the aspects of lifestyle and behavioral changes that you need to make to get the most out of your journey. Cheers to health!

... Read moreThinking about starting your own Wegovy journey and wondering what the 'before and after' really looks like? I totally get it. When I was researching, all I wanted were real stories and tangible results, especially for that crucial first month. My journey began at 243.4lb, squeezing into a size 14-16, with the goal of preparing my body for a healthy pregnancy. It wasn't just about shedding pounds; it was about reclaiming my health. That first month on compounded semaglutide was a mixed bag. I did see an initial drop of about 8 lbs, and I remember feeling a significant shift in my appetite—the constant food noise in my head finally quieted. It felt like a breakthrough! However, after that initial burst, the scale definitely slowed down. This is where many people, myself included, might get discouraged. It’s easy to look at those dramatic one-month transformations online and feel like you're falling short. For me, that plateau was a wake-up call that a weekly injection wasn't miraculous on its own. Eventually, I transitioned to Wegovy. The difference in my overall weight loss trajectory from that 243.4lb starting point to where I am now, a comfortable size 8 at around 207.6lb, is significant. But it wasn't a straight line down. What truly propelled my progress beyond simple appetite suppression was a complete overhaul of my habits. I had to confront the reality that I couldn't just eat 'less junk'; I had to eat better quality food. This meant focusing on nutrient-dense meals, understanding portion sizes, and making conscious choices to fuel my body properly. I began to see my body's transformation not just in the numbers on the scale or the changing sizes of my clothes, but in my energy levels and overall well-being. Another huge piece of my puzzle was addressing my underlying PCOS and insulin resistance. It’s hard to overstate how much hormonal balance impacts weight loss. Working with my endocrinologist and gynecologist to find the right combination of medications made a world of difference. It wasn't just about Wegovy; it was about creating a synergistic approach where every piece of my health was being supported. If you're struggling with similar health conditions, please know that personalized medical guidance is invaluable. It’s not just about the weight loss drug; it’s about treating your whole body. So, if you’re looking for those dramatic 'before and after pictures' stories, remember that the most impactful transformations often involve consistent effort and a holistic approach. It’s about building sustainable habits, understanding your body, and being patient with yourself. My journey from a size 14-16 to a size 8 has taught me that Wegovy is an amazing tool, but it truly shines when paired with genuine lifestyle changes. It’s not just a shot; it’s a catalyst for a healthier, more intentional life.
