Again, check all electrical outlets, especially if they are GFCI protected near water sources. Move into the bedrooms and living areas. Pay close attention to the flooring. Are there any major scratches, dents, or stains on carpets, hardwood, or tile? Document everything, even minor scuffs. Run your hand along the baseboards – any signs of gaps or pest entry points? Check all light fixtures and wall switches. Most importantly, test every single electrical outlet in these rooms. You'll be plugging in lamps, chargers, and entertainment systems, so you need them all to work. While you’re at it, peek at the window with blinds; do they go up and down easily? Finally, don't forget less obvious things like the HVAC system. Turn on both the heating and air conditioning for a few minutes to ensure they're functioning. Check the air filter – if it's dirty, ask for it to be replaced. Look for any signs of water damage on ceilings throughout the apartment, not just in the bathroom. My biggest piece of advice? Document, document, document! Take photos and videos of *everything*, even things that seem minor. A small scratch on the floor might be overlooked, but if it's not documented, you could be charged for it later. Send your landlord or property management a detailed list of all findings, along with your photos, as soon as possible. This creates a clear record and protects you from future disputes.
