My parent’s house rules that I still live by

Even in my own apartment I still follow a few of my parents rules, 😅 even though I moved out almost 3 years ago now, but they do help me to keep a tidy home and hold myself accountable without going crazy.

There are a few rules I don’t follow like I will go to bed with dishes in the sink, and I will fall asleep on the sofa 😂

... Read moreIt's funny how some habits stick with you, even years after leaving home. My parents' house rules, which once felt like strict chores, have actually become my secret weapons for keeping my own apartment feeling like a true sanctuary. When you're living alone, it's easy for things to get out of hand, but having these ingrained "household rules" helps me stay on top of things without feeling totally overwhelmed. It’s all about creating an environment that supports peace and tidiness, something my parents always emphasized. Let's talk about the kitchen sink. My mom's unspoken rule was always, "PICK ONE - PUT THE DISHES UP OR DO THEM." And honestly, it's a game-changer. While I admit, like in the article, I do sometimes go to bed with dishes in the sink (oops!), knowing that rule pushes me to tackle them sooner rather than later. It prevents that dreaded mountain of plates and keeps my kitchen feeling much cleaner. It’s not about perfection, but about setting a simple expectation for myself that minimizes daily chaos. Then there's the classic "NO EATING IN THE BEDROOM." For me, this is one of the best bedroom rules ideas I inherited. Seriously, no crumbs in the sheets, no sticky spills on the nightstand. It keeps the bedroom a true haven for rest and relaxation, not a dining hall. Plus, it’s amazing how much cleaner your bedding stays, which contributes to better sleep hygiene and a more inviting space. It truly helps maintain a pristine personal space. And who can forget the "FORWARD FACING TOILET TISSUE ALWAYS" rule? Maybe it seems minor, but it's one of those little details that just makes sense. It's easier to grab, looks neater, and honestly, it’s just a small way to keep things looking "put together" in the bathroom. These seemingly small household rules contribute to a general sense of order and care throughout your apartment. My mom definitely had an unwritten "no-clutter policy," and that's something I actively try to uphold in my apartment. It’s not about being a minimalist, but about giving everything a home. A tidy living room, especially one with a cozy sofa and no stray items, truly creates a protective environment for your mind. It’s hard to relax when clutter is staring at you! Regularly decluttering, even for just 10 minutes a day, makes a huge difference in maintaining a serene living space. These "house rules apartment" life hacks aren't about being rigid; they're about finding what works for you to maintain a comfortable and functional living space. These aren't just rules; they're habits that promote peace and order, making your apartment feel more like home.

Don’t eat in my bed. I do not want crumbs. And for my toddler. Absolutely no shoes on the bed. It’s a daily battle.
