Unsexy home habits that make life easier 🏠

These home habits aren’t the ones you might want to do first, but they do make a difference in your everyday life.

I definitely keep a spray bottle by the toilet now so anytime I go number two I can just get straight to scrubbing, and I don’t have to worry about having harder things to work with later 🧼

I’m also big on smells so cleaning the toilet, taking out the trash, and washing dishes - make my apartment smell better🩷

... Read moreLet's be honest, cleaning isn't always glamorous. We see those perfectly curated homes on social media, yet the reality of keeping a space truly tidy often involves tasks no one wants to talk about. But guess what? These 'unsexy' home habits are the real secret to a consistently clean and comfortable living space, and honestly, they've been game-changers for me. First up, let's tackle the loo. My original trick of keeping a spray bottle by the toilet for immediate scrubbing after 'number two' is still my absolute favorite. It prevents buildup and keeps things fresh. But I've taken it a step further, inspired by the idea of "cleaning after every other use." This doesn't mean a deep scrub every time, but a quick spritz of a toilet bowl cleaner (like a bleach foamer) and a swish with the brush. It takes literally 10 seconds, and it means I never have to face a truly grimy toilet again. This small, consistent effort saves so much harder work later, and it genuinely makes the bathroom a more pleasant place to be. Next, let’s talk about that shower glass. If you're like me, you've probably battled hard water stains. The solution? A squeegee shower glass daily routine. It sounds like a chore, but it's not! After every shower, I take 30 seconds to squeegee down the glass. It prevents water spots and soap scum from building up in the first place, meaning I rarely have to do a deep scrub. It’s one of those tiny habits that yields massive results, keeping your shower looking cleaner with minimal effort. Moving to the kitchen, beyond washing dishes nightly (which is non-negotiable for a pleasant morning!), I’ve found that a quick wipe-down of my kitchen stovetop and microwave after each use makes a huge difference. Splatters and spills are much easier to clean when they're fresh. If you let them bake on, you're looking at a much tougher job later. Keeping a cleaning spray and a cloth handy by the stove encourages this habit. It’s amazing how much cleaner the kitchen feels when these high-traffic areas are consistently tidy. And let's not forget the bedroom. While changing bed sheets often is a given for hygiene, I’ve also adopted the habit of a quick daily wipe-down of bedside tables and any visible surfaces. Dust collects faster than you think, and a minute or two can keep your bedroom feeling fresh. If I spot something, I wipe for spots immediately rather than letting it sit. Finally, a truly unsexy but essential habit: cleaning hair from drains every other week. I know, gross! But preventing clogs is so much easier than dealing with a backed-up sink or shower. Keeping a simple drain snake or even just a pair of old pliers nearby for a quick hair extraction can save you a call to the plumber and a lot of frustration. It takes less than five minutes, and it keeps your water flowing freely. These habits aren't fancy, and they definitely won't get you likes on social media for their aesthetic appeal. But they are incredibly effective at maintaining a clean, fresh, and comfortable home with minimal stress. They prove that consistency and immediate action are far more powerful than sporadic, deep-cleaning marathons. Embrace the unsexy, and enjoy the easier life!
