Strawberry Banana (hidden veggie) smoothies
One thing about me, I’m going to always find a way to sneak in nutrients with my babies wherever I can because one day they’re going to run this world so they’ll need strong minds, strong bodies and good health. Lolol. The earlier you start, the better but also it’s never too late to start. 🫶🏽
My kids are always asking for smoothies but not just any smoothies “strawberry smoothies”. That’s what they call the recipe I’m sharing with you today. When my kids both graduated to picky eaters, I opted to still make sure they’re getting nutrients in their day somehow. These smoothies are sweet and have no visual or flavor hints at veggies which is perfect for toddlers like mine examining every inch to make sure there’s no trace of veggies. Lol.

Finding ways to boost my family's nutrition without a battle can feel like a superpower! My go-to strategy, just like with my favorite strawberry banana hidden veggie smoothie, is to sneak in those powerhouse ingredients. This isn't just about spinach and avocado – there's a whole world of veggies you can blend into deliciousness without anyone being the wiser! For instance, frozen cauliflower florets are absolute magic. They add an incredible creaminess and bulk without any distinct flavor, making your creamy smoothie even more satisfying. You can also try steamed zucchini, peeled first to avoid any green flecks, especially if you're making a lighter-colored blend. Cooked carrots or sweet potato puree are fantastic for adding natural sweetness and a beautiful orange hue, perfect for a tropical-themed smoothie. Even a tiny bit of cooked beet can add a vibrant color and earthy goodness, but go easy as the flavor can be strong! The secret to truly good smoothie combos with hidden veggies lies in mastering the blend. Starting with small amounts of veggies and gradually increasing them helps everyone adjust to the subtle changes in taste. Using naturally sweet fruits like ripe bananas, mangoes, or berries, as we do with the frozen strawberries and banana in this recipe, is crucial for masking the veggie flavors. And let me tell you, a powerful Ninja blender is your best friend here. It ensures everything is perfectly pulverized, leaving no suspicious chunks behind. No one wants to find a spinach leaf! Beyond the classic strawberry banana blend, think about other winning combinations. A tropical green smoothie with pineapple, mango, a handful of spinach, and coconut water is incredibly refreshing. For berry lovers, a mix of frozen berries, a small cooked zucchini, and almond milk makes for a vibrant, nutrient-packed treat. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, try a chocolate power smoothie with cocoa powder, banana, a sneaky bit of spinach, and your milk of choice. The key is to balance the sweetness of the fruit with the earthiness of the vegetables. To further elevate your smoothies, consider these nutritional boosters. A teaspoon of chia seeds or ground flax seeds adds omega-3s and fiber without changing the taste. A spoonful of nut butter (like almond or peanut) provides healthy fats and protein, making the smoothie more filling. Greek yogurt can boost protein and probiotics, giving it a wonderfully thick texture. For extra fiber, you can even add a quarter cup of rolled oats, especially if you're making a heartier breakfast smoothie. My personal tip for busy mornings is to prep smoothie packs. I throw my frozen strawberries, banana, milk, spinach, avocado, and hemp seeds (or whatever combo I'm using that week) into individual freezer bags. In the morning, just dump a bag into the Ninja blender, add liquid, and voilà – a healthy, delicious meal in minutes! Letting my kids pick which fruits go in (but not the veggies, shhh!) makes them feel involved and more likely to drink it. Always taste your creation before serving; even a small tweak can make all the difference. Happy blending!
