Toddler mom hack

Does your toddler struggle with putting their shoes on the right feet? Mine sure do (or did should I say)! Every-time we leave the house, their shoes are on wrong. Lolol. Typically they can put on their shoes by themselves but since they were often wrong, I would just redo them anyways. This is such a great way to teach independence and makes it fun for them to put on each time.

✨Grab their shoes

✨Pick out a sticker - Can be any sticker but needs a front and back.

Animals are typically good ones, Cars can be a bit more confusing.

✨place sticker in shoes on appropriate order. Front/back, top/bottom

✨practice, practice, practice. Don’t get frustrated if they don’t learn right away. It takes time. Just keep at it. This can sound like… “does the cow look right?” “Does the sheep head go in front or behind the sheep body?”

... Read moreOkay, fellow parents, let me tell you, the struggle is REAL when it comes to getting toddlers to put their shoes on the right feet. I used to feel like a broken record, constantly saying, 'No, sweetie, that's the other foot!' It was not only frustrating for me but also for my little one, who just wanted to be independent. That's why I absolutely swear by this sticker hack! It's been a total game-changer in our house, helping my child gain confidence and making our mornings so much smoother. The beauty of this trick is its simplicity. You just need a sticker that has a clear front and back – think animals, like a cow-shaped sticker, or even a simple car that has a clear direction. Avoid super abstract designs! I found that using animal stickers, like the cow, made it really intuitive for my toddler. The most important part is cutting it in half and placing each half inside the shoe's insole, so when the shoes are placed side-by-side correctly, the sticker forms a whole picture. For instance, the cow's head in one shoe, and the body in the other. It’s a visual cue that just clicks with their developing brains. Beyond just getting shoes on correctly, this hack fosters so much more. It's a fantastic way to encourage independence and autonomy, which are crucial for toddler development. When they successfully put on their own shoes, you see their little faces light up with pride! It also subtly introduces the concept of 'left' and 'right' in a practical, non-pressuring way. Plus, it's a great exercise for fine motor skills as they learn to manipulate their shoes and feet. Now, don't get discouraged if it doesn't work perfectly on day one. Remember, practice makes progress! I learned to make it a fun game. We'd ask, 'Does the cow look right?' or 'Is the whole cow together?' This playful approach keeps frustration at bay for both of you. You can even try it with different types of shoes – these white toddler Nike shoes with velcro straps were perfect for us because they're easy for little hands to manage. The clear, flat insoles made sticker placement a breeze. If you're looking for other ways to boost your toddler's independence during getting ready time, consider setting out their clothes the night before, or giving them choices between two outfits. Small wins like mastering shoe-wearing can build momentum for other self-care tasks. This simple mom hack isn't just about shoes; it's about empowering our tiny humans to navigate their world with a little more confidence, one step at a time.
