Things I love in my toddlers room
I love having a little girl. I love having a little boy too obviously. They’re fun in different ways. My girl is very much a mix of super girly girl and rough play/traditional boy toys which I love because I was the same way! She loves all the girly pretty stuff but also can have a blast playing monster trucks and getting dirty.
Her room is pretty dolled up and I’d say that’s mostly my input (even though she loves it also) because I know soon, she will be letting me know what she wants and it will be totally different with characters and fun kid stuff (which I’m totally okay with also)!
Some of my favorite parts of her room are:
🤍Her calming corner. We deal with big emotions here. We also read books or just sit for a rest after a workout of play!
🤍Mini library. This is where the rotation of books live. They’re swapped depending on the season, gifts received or what we’re learning at the moment.
🤍Playhouse Montessori bed. I really wanted her to have a bed on the floor when we moved out of the crib. I also wanted a twin bed so I didn’t have to upgrade again in a couple of years. This bed is awesome. She transitioned so well and loves the extra touches of faux canopy I made.
⚠️⚠️ if you hang canopy sheets, please ensure it has some sort of attachment to the bed or is tightly tied onto the bed to where your child can not access it so they don’t end up with a suffocation hazard in the middle of the night.

Creating a toddler's room is such a joyful experience, and it's not just about aesthetics – it's about fostering a safe, independent, and stimulating environment for our little explorers! When we designed my daughter's space, the idea of her 'exploring the house' safely was always in the back of my mind. That’s why her Montessori-style twin bed was a non-negotiable. Being a floor bed, it allows her to get in and out independently, boosting her confidence and autonomy. We made sure all furniture, from her cozy armchair in the calming corner to the mini library shelves, were securely anchored. Outlets are covered, and any potential hazards are out of reach, turning her room into a true haven where she can learn and play without constant supervision. This thoughtful setup really minimizes those 'no!' moments, giving her the freedom to discover her world safely. While my daughter's room is filled with sweet, feminine touches like the flower-shaped cushion and princess bed canopy, I often get asked about toddler boy room essentials. And you know what? Many of the core principles are universal! A safe, comfortable sleeping arrangement, an inviting reading nook like our rotating mini library, and a dedicated calming corner are beneficial for all toddlers. For a boy's room, simply adapt the themes! Instead of a floral canopy, imagine a starry night sky or a jungle adventure above his bed. Swap out plush dolls for soft dinosaur toys or cars on the bookshelf. Focus on colors and patterns that appeal to them – vibrant blues, greens, or even a 'construction zone' theme can be just as inspiring and cozy as a princess room. The goal is always to reflect their unique personality and interests. I also know that not everyone has a huge space, and many families are looking for small toddler room ideas or even baby and toddler room sharing ideas. It's absolutely possible to create a functional and beautiful room, even with limited square footage! For small rooms, think vertically. Wall-mounted shelves, like those in our mini library, are brilliant for storing books and small toys without taking up precious floor space. Consider multi-functional furniture, such as a bed with built-in storage drawers beneath it. For shared rooms, clever zoning can make a huge difference. Use a rug to define each child's play area or a curtain to provide a visual separation for sleep. A floor bed for the toddler keeps the room feeling open, and bunk beds (once age-appropriate) are fantastic for maximizing sleeping space. Remember, even a small corner can become a magical reading nook or a quiet retreat with the right touches. It’s all about creativity and making every inch count to ensure both little ones feel comfortable and cherished in their shared sanctuary.
