Born in the 80’s

... Read moreAs someone born in the 80s, I often get asked why our childhood seems so special, and why the decade itself still holds such a strong grip on popular culture. It's a question that brings a smile to my face, because it truly was a unique time to be alive, a bridge between two very different worlds. The 80s offered a vibrant tapestry of culture that still resonates today. Think iconic Saturday morning CARTOONS, groundbreaking movies, and music that had us making countless MIXTAPES. There was a distinct sense of optimism and innocence, a simpler time when HAPPINESS felt like long summer days spent on BIKE RIDES with FRIENDS, without the constant digital noise. What made it so popular, I believe, was this blend of emerging TECHNOLOGY and a lingering SIMPLICITY. It wasn't just about neon colors and big hair; it was about the feeling of possibility and a truly unique cultural identity that we STILL FEEL connected to. But beyond the nostalgia, being born in the 80s meant living through a period of incredible change. We were among the last generations to extensively use PAYPHONES, to experience a world where 'KNOCKING' on a friend's door was the primary way to see if they were HOME, not 'SENDING' a 'TEXT'. We grew up playing outside until the streetlights came on, and then we WATCHED as the WORLD around us rapidly transformed INTO SOMETHING much FASTER. We learned to ADAPT at lightning speed. We started with dial-up internet, progressed through flip phones, and now navigate a hyper-connected digital landscape. We witnessed TECHNOLOGY evolve from clunky gadgets into integrated parts of our daily LIFE. This constant evolution meant we had to learn, unlearn, and relearn how we communicate, work, and even socialize. It was a truly DIFFERENT experience. We had one foot firmly planted in the analog past and another stepping bravely into the digital future. We understood life THEN and could see it becoming faster and more interconnected. This perspective gives us a unique understanding of how far we've come, and perhaps why we sometimes long for the EASY days of ONCE. So, why is the 80s still so popular, and what did we truly live through? It's the blend of a vibrant, simpler childhood filled with genuine connections and the profound experience of witnessing and ADAPTING to the birth of the digital age. It's the unique perspective of having LIVED in two WORLDS at once, and knowing the value of both. That, to me, is what makes being an 80s baby so special and why it FEELS like a golden era for so many.

Born in the 70s. Raised in the 80s. Survived every decade since. If you really think about it… that means we’ve lived through 5 different decades and crossed 2 centuries. That’s a lot of life, change, reinvention, and becoming someone new over and over again. And now here we are… in our 50s…
