Living in a milder climate, I wasn't fully prepared for the biting cold and endless grey skies that come with Chicago winters. I quickly realized that snowy weather isn't as magical as it often seems—it can be harsh and relentless. Despite the freezing temperatures, the city’s vibrant energy during the New Year celebrations was something to remember. Chicago offers many exciting ways to celebrate, from fireworks over Lake Michigan to lively parties and cultural events. If you ever visit during winter, I recommend dressing in layers and investing in good-quality winter gear, such as insulated boots, thermal wear, and a windproof jacket. One thing I enjoyed was exploring iconic spots like Millennium Park and Navy Pier, even though the cold made short visits preferable. The winter landscapes, dusted with snow, gave the city a unique charm. Also, warming up with Chicago’s famous hot chocolate or a hearty deep-dish pizza nearby was perfect after being outdoors. For anyone who’s like me and unsure about snowy winters, visiting Chicago during this season could be a bittersweet adventure. The city’s festive atmosphere keeps spirits high, but be ready to adapt to the weather. It’s an excellent reminder that experiencing a destination’s climate firsthand can be very different from what you imagine and reading about it. Overall, celebrating New Year's in Chicago was memorable, if chilly, and I hope to return during warmer months to see the city in a new light.
