My poor car 😭

my cars name is Janky Janet, janky is a term if endearment!!! she’s my first car! shes a 2009 Hyundai sonata limited and shes 15 🧍‍♀️

shes old lol. The passenger side windows don’t go down, her passenger handle comes off every time someone opens it, her passenger mirror’s shell is broken, the dash is cracked from the sun (its cool tho), she creaks a lil, but oh well. until i thought my brakes were gone entirely 😅

theyre fine, i think i was a lil cookoo but then every time i braked or made a right it groaned really bad so my dad fixed it, then we saw my break pads so maybe i wasn’t crazy?? my dad fixed it tho so now she squeaks a little when i make a right but my car wont blow up 😄👍

... Read moreOh, the joys (and occasional terrors) of owning a 'janky' car! It's one thing when your car has a few cosmetic issues, like a cracked dash or a mirror shell that's seen better days. You learn to live with the little creaks and groans, often giving your beloved ride a nickname that perfectly captures its unique personality, just like my 'Janky Janet.' It’s a term of endearment, really, for those loyal vehicles that keep running despite their age. But then there are those moments that truly test your bond. I remember the absolute dread when my car felt like it was about to be completely out of commission because of the brakes. That feeling of uncertainty, wondering if you're imagining things or if something serious is actually wrong, is so real. I thought I was just being 'cookoo,' but when every brake and right turn brought a terrible groan, it was clear something was up. It’s a stark reminder that while we can laugh off a sticky window or a loose door handle, some things you just can't ignore. Brakes, for instance, are non-negotiable. Seeing those worn brake pads and realizing the brake rotor had seen better days was a huge wake-up call. It's easy to overlook routine maintenance on an older car, especially when you're trying to save a buck, but safety should always come first. My dad was a lifesaver, getting those crucial parts sorted out. It’s comforting to have someone knowledgeable to turn to, but it also made me realize how important it is to pay attention to those warning signs myself. For anyone else out there with a 'janky' car, here's my two cents: Listen to your car. Those strange noises, the changes in how it drives – they're often telling you something. Don't put off getting things checked, especially when it comes to steering, tires, and most importantly, brakes. While it's fun to embrace the quirks of an old car, knowing when to call in the cavalry (or a trusted mechanic!) is key to keeping yourself and your beloved 'janky' ride safe on the road. Even with a little squeak after the fix, knowing my car won't blow up is a huge relief!
