Pisa
2025/3/10 Edited to

... Read moreMany visitors rush straight to the Leaning Tower, and while it's breathtaking, I found so much charm exploring other parts of Pisa. One of my absolute favorite spots was Piazza Garibaldi. It's such a lively square! You can't miss the impressive bronze statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi standing proudly in the center. I spent some time just sitting on a bench, soaking in the atmosphere, watching the world go by. Around the piazza, you'll find those quintessential colorful buildings that just scream Italy. I noticed a few inviting shops, like 'La Bottega del Gelato' – you know I had to stop for a scoop (or two!). There was also 'BANGLA ARİBALDİ DONER Gelateria,' showing the vibrant mix of cultures. It’s the perfect place to grab a coffee, people-watch, and truly feel like you're part of local life. The energy here is infectious, especially in the evening, when locals gather. Speaking of local life, if you're like me, you're always on the hunt for authentic food experiences. While I didn't get to visit every single spot, I made sure to seek out places that locals love. Imagine stepping into a cozy trattoria, perhaps one tucked away down a narrow street, with the aroma of fresh pasta filling the air. Places like 'I Porci Comodi' are exactly what I had in mind when I was dreaming of Tuscan flavors. Even if you don't find that specific spot, look for the smaller, family-run places. I stumbled upon 'fiederico Dal1898 PASTICCT G' – a pasticceria that had some of the most divine pastries I've ever tasted. These little culinary discoveries are what make a trip truly memorable. Beyond the main squares, Pisa's charm truly unfolds as you wander its historic backstreets. I loved exploring the narrow streets lined with those beautiful colorful buildings, many with quaint arched ground floors and shuttered windows. You'll see locals going about their day, maybe dining at outdoor tables, and it feels like stepping back in time. Don't be afraid to veer off the main tourist path; that's where you'll find the unexpected delights, like that beautiful ornate stone facade of a historic building I passed, possibly a church, with intricate carvings that tell stories of centuries past. Even seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa peeking out from behind a vibrant purple bougainvillea on a residential street was a magical moment. It's not just about what you see, but how you experience it. I found a lovely modern courtyard with large planters and trees, where a bronze statue of a historical figure holding a globe stood. It felt like an oasis of calm. And exploring the interior of one of the large churches, with its rows of wooden pews and stunning stained-glass windows, was a moment of peaceful reflection. Transportation is fairly easy too. I even spotted a charming vintage-style tourist train, cream-colored, which seemed like a fun way to get around if your feet get tired. Whether you're admiring the grandeur of the Pisa Cathedral alongside the famous tower or simply enjoying the clear blue sky above, Pisa has so much to offer. My advice? Take your time, look beyond the obvious, and let the city surprise you. You'll leave with so many wonderful memories, just like I did!
