I ran my first race ever last weekend and it was LITERALLY THE BIGGEST MARATHON EVER !!
… but yeah, I was SCARED. I know everyone talks about how excited they get and stuff but I honestly had the worse anxiety at the start line that morning even though I was prepared and determined to finish 😭 did it scared anyway tho
Running your first marathon is a life-changing experience filled with a mix of excitement, fear, and accomplishment. Many first-time marathoners face anxiety similar to mine, especially at the start line, where anticipation and nerves collide. It's completely normal to feel scared even when you have trained extensively and feel ready. The NYC Marathon is one of the biggest and most prestigious races in the world, attracting runners from all walks of life. Participating in such an event not only tests your physical endurance but also challenges your mental strength. The overwhelm at the start can stem from the sheer size of the crowd, the energy buzzing through the air, and the pressure to perform your best. To ease race-day anxiety, it helps to have a race-day plan including a good warm-up, familiarizing yourself with the course, and setting realistic goals. Many runners find that focusing on small milestones along the route instead of the whole distance helps manage nerves and keep motivation high. Remember, finishing your first marathon is a huge achievement regardless of your time. The sense of community is another highlight of events like the NYC Marathon. From the crowds cheering on sidelines in NYC’s neighborhoods to fellow runners encouraging one another, this shared experience can be incredibly uplifting. Tagging your experience with hashtags such as #NYCMarathon, #marathonrunner, and #runcommunity connects you to a wider network of runners who understand the journey. For anyone preparing for their first marathon, know that feeling scared or anxious is part of the process—and it’s okay. Embrace the challenge, trust your training, and celebrate every step of your race day. Running my first marathon taught me resilience, the power of determination, and how conquering fear brings unforgettable joy and pride.
