... Read moreHey fragrance lovers! I'm so excited to dive deeper into the world of scent layering and help you find your perfect match, especially since so many of you ask about specific notes and popular brands like Sol de Janeiro. First off, let's talk about those beloved Sol de Janeiro sprays. You've seen me mention Cheirosa 40 and 62, but what makes them so special, and which one is 'best'? Honestly, it's all about personal preference, but here's my take! Cheirosa 62, the iconic 'Bum Bum Cream' scent, is a true "VANILLA CARAMEL DREAM" (just like the combo I love!). It's a warm gourmand with notes of pistachio, salted caramel, and vanilla. It smells like a sunny beach day and a delicious dessert all rolled into one. It's incredibly comforting and universally loved for a reason. Then there's Cheirosa 40, which I pair with Cloud Pink for a "SWEET COTTON CANDY DREAM." This one is more of a warm floral with notes of black amber plum, cassis, and vanilla woods. It's sweet but with a sophisticated, slightly deeper fruitiness compared to 62. If you want something that feels a bit more grown-up but still distinctly sweet and warm, 40 is a fantastic choice. And for those wondering about Cheirosa 71 – it's a super indulgent option! Think caramelized vanilla, macadamia nut, and sea salt. If you're a fan of rich, edible, almost buttery sweet scents, 71 is your go-to. It's arguably the sweetest and most intensely gourmand of the popular lineup, perfect for when you want to smell like a walking bakery (in the best way!). To choose the 'best,' I recommend trying them on your skin, as they truly evolve. For a 'VANILLA CHRISTMAS COOKIE' vibe, 62 or 71 are amazing bases. Now, let's chat more broadly about warm and sweet gourmands. What exactly are they? These are fragrances that smell like edible things – think desserts, fruits, and cozy treats. Common notes include vanilla, caramel, chocolate (hello, "CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRY" and "Chocolate covered strawberry"!). They also include coffee, honey, almond, and various sweet fruits. I love them because they evoke feelings of comfort, happiness, and deliciousness! To find your warmest and sweetest gourmands, look for those key notes. Don't be afraid to experiment with layering a vanilla-based perfume oil under a more fruity or chocolatey scent to enhance that edible quality. Finally, a question I get often: what perfumes go best with things like lavender body wash and lotion? This is a fun challenge because lavender can be tricky! It's typically a calming, aromatic, and sometimes herbaceous scent. For layering, you want to either complement or soften it. To complement: Look for perfumes with clean musks, subtle woods (like sandalwood), or other delicate florals such as iris or violet. These can enhance the sophisticated, fresh side of lavender without overpowering it. To soften/sweeten: Vanilla is your best friend here! A warm vanilla scent can transform lavender into a cozy, comforting, almost bedtime-like aroma. It adds a delicious sweetness that can mellow out lavender's sharper edges. To brighten: A light citrus (like bergamot or even a subtle orange blossom) could add a sparkling top note, making your lavender-infused routine feel more uplifting. I'd generally avoid heavy patchouli, very strong orientals, or super juicy tropical fruits, as they might clash with lavender's natural profile. For my "ROSE DREAM" combo, I typically stick to rose-centric perfumes, but a soft, powdery rose could also work surprisingly well with a delicate lavender base if you're aiming for a classic, clean floral feel. Layering is an art, and the best part is making it your own! Enjoy experimenting and smelling absolutely divine.
