Come collect eggs and feed the chooks with me 🐓
I usually head out around 4 PM to collect eggs and feed the chickens, giving them plenty of daylight to settle in. The chooks love it when I bring their fermented seeds — I soak and ferment them for 24 hours, which seems to boost their health and happiness. Even in the middle of a drought, with dry and dusty surroundings, these little routines keep the farm lively. Today, I found at least four eggs waiting to be collected — the chickens pay their rent every day! Once collected, I take the eggs inside to date them, ensuring I always use the freshest ones first. It’s a simple pleasure to watch the chickens follow close behind, eager for their feed and companionship. This routine not only helps me stay connected to my little farm but also gives the chickens the care they deserve, especially during challenging conditions like drought. It’s small moments like these, sharing with the animals, that make country living so special.
