Quick Length Check✨🫶
Hey natural hair fam! We all know the journey to longer, healthier natural hair can feel like a marathon, especially with shrinkage playing tricks on us. I used to get so frustrated trying to figure out if my hair was actually growing. That's why I started doing regular length checks and even created my own little tracking system, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer for my motivation! So, how do you do a proper length check, especially for coily hair like mine? First, consistency is key! I always do mine on wet, detangled hair. You can gently stretch a section to its full length and measure it against a measuring tape. Some people like to use a T-shirt as a backdrop with marked lines, or even a mirror with tape marks at different length milestones (shoulder, armpit, bra strap, waist). This helps immensely because shrinkage can make your hair look the same length for ages, even when it's growing! To create your own 'hair length chart,' you don't need anything fancy. I simply take a picture from the back every 2-3 months on my wash day, making sure my hair is styled similarly each time. I also keep a little journal where I note down the date, my measurements for different sections (front, sides, back), and any new products or homemade blends I've been using. Seeing those pictures side-by-side or reading my measurements slowly increase is incredibly rewarding and keeps me going! Now, about those 'homemade blends' that transformed my hair – they're a big part of my growth journey. I've found that consistency with moisturizing and nourishing my scalp is paramount. My go-to blend involves a carrier oil like Jamaican Black Castor Oil or Jojoba oil, infused with herbs like fenugreek and rosemary. I warm it slightly and massage it into my scalp a few times a week. I also swear by a weekly deep conditioning treatment, sometimes adding a bit of honey or aloe vera gel for extra moisture. These rituals, combined with protective styling and minimizing heat, have truly made my hair grow faster and healthier than I ever imagined. Tracking your hair length isn't just about the numbers; it's about understanding your hair, celebrating small victories, and staying committed to a healthy hair routine. Give it a try, and you might be surprised by how much progress you're making!
