For me, I noticed that traditional cow's milk sometimes exacerbated my symptoms, especially bloating and skin issues. That's why you'll often see 'Almond milk & coffee' in my morning routine, as pictured in my daily food diary. Almond milk is a fantastic alternative for many with PCOS because it's naturally lower in sugar and doesn't contain the hormones found in dairy that can potentially disrupt our own delicate hormonal balance. It’s been a game-changer for my morning coffee, allowing me to enjoy my ritual without the potential downsides. Of course, everyone's body is different, and some people tolerate dairy fine, but for me, making the switch to non-dairy options like almond or even unsweetened oat milk has been a supportive choice on my personal PCOS journey. Beyond just my milk choices, fueling my body with balanced meals is key. For lunch, I often gravitate towards lean proteins and plenty of greens, much like the 'Tilapia & greens' you might spot in my day. Tilapia offers a great source of protein without too much saturated fat, and pairing it with a generous serving of leafy greens ensures I’m getting essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber – all crucial for blood sugar management and gut health with PCOS. Snacks can be tricky, but I love creating a mini 'Charcuterie board snack.' Instead of processed crackers, I'll opt for a handful of almonds or walnuts, a few olives, some cucumber slices, and maybe a small portion of a hard cheese if I’m tolerating dairy well that day, or avocado for healthy fats. It feels indulgent, but it’s packed with nutrients that keep me full and my blood sugar stable between meals. Dinner is usually where I get creative with leftovers or simple, wholesome ingredients. A 'Veggie bowl with chicken' is a staple, and yes, sometimes that comes 'from chipotle' – because convenience can be part of a sustainable plan! When building a bowl, I focus on a base of greens or cauliflower rice, a generous helping of non-starchy vegetables like bell peppers and onions, grilled chicken for protein, and then healthy fats like avocado or a little olive oil dressing. I’m mindful of sugary sauces that can spike blood sugar. It's about making smart swaps and choices even when eating out. And yes, you might have noticed 'TREAT:Diet Coke' in my day. While I aim to minimize processed foods, I believe in balance and occasional indulgences. For me, a Diet Coke is an occasional treat, not a daily habit. It's about finding what works for you without feeling too restricted, because sustainability is key for long-term PCOS management.
