Random 20 hour roadtrip?!? Yes pls
MDW recap: a spontaneous roadtrip to Colorado and now hanging out in Utah for some meetings ;)
So, my partner and I were super bored last weekend, and the idea of a spontaneous road trip just clicked! He asked, 'Do you want to take a road trip?' and I literally said 'say less!' We decided on Colorado and Utah, and the best part? Car camping! Since I refuse to sleep in a tent (especially after seeing some of the critters out there, no thank you!), our immediate solution was to put a mattress in the back of the Santa Fe. It was a bit of a puzzle to get it to fit perfectly, but with some clever maneuvering, we made it work. This setup instantly elevated our trip from just driving to a true mobile adventure hub. We loaded up on essential camping supplies – think not just cozy blankets and pillows, but also a small cooler for drinks and perishable snacks, a portable stove for quick meals, and a headlamp for navigating in the dark. Before hitting the road to Colorado, a crucial stop at Bucky's was essential to grab some more snacks, drinks, and fuel for the long journey. Those road trip snacks are absolutely crucial, right? Our first leg took us through Colorado, where we explored a bit around Pueblo Blvd. It was so much fun to just drive and see where the road took us, making impromptu stops at scenic overlooks. Car camping for the first time was surprisingly comfortable and convenient! I honestly never thought I'd enjoy not sleeping in a traditional bed, but having everything right there in the car was a game-changer. No struggling with pitching tents in the dark or worrying about unexpected weather; we just pulled over, adjusted our setup, and relaxed. It makes a last-minute adventure so much easier to manage. My biggest car camping tip for beginners? Bring an eye mask and earplugs – you'll thank me later! We found a perfect, quiet spot to set up our campsite for the night. We even managed to have a little fire and make some s'mores, which was incredibly cozy and the perfect end to our spontaneous day. There's nothing quite like roasting marshmallows under the stars after a day of driving and exploring. It felt like a true adventure, even though the planning was minimal! We also stopped at some Culvers along the way, which was a nice little break from cooking. Now, the excitement continues as we're heading into Utah. I've never road tripped through Utah before, and I'm so excited to see the incredible landscapes and discover what this state has to offer. I've heard amazing things about its national parks, stunning red rock formations, and scenic routes, and I can't wait to experience them firsthand from the comfort of our car-turned-camper. If you're thinking about a spontaneous Colorado and Utah road trip, especially with car camping, I highly recommend it. It's a fantastic way to embrace adventure without all the fuss. Just pack your mattress, grab your camping supplies, and hit the road – you won't regret it!
Bucket list item 😂
