would you stay friends after a situationship?

i wanted to prove that endings didn’t have to be dramatic. that we could be “cool” and still stay in each other’s lives. but what i learned is that staying friends too soon kept me stuck. i was clinging to comfort, not connection. every conversation felt like a test... did they still care? did i? i confused peace with proximity. eventually, i realized healing required distance. when the dust settled, i could see what we actually were...two people who cared, but couldn’t give each other what we needed. sometimes love ends quietly, and that’s okay. friendship might be possible one day, but only after both people stop looking back.
