Just some thoughts on rest today 🤍
You DESERVE rest but preparing for it may help you too!!
As someone who often struggles with unwinding due to a busy and type-A personality, I’ve found that resting isn’t just about stopping activity—it’s about preparing your mind and body to genuinely relax. It helps to think of rest as a ritual involving kindness, patience, and self-control, much like the metaphorical lattes mentioned in the image text: Kindness Latte, Patience Latte, Goodness Latte, Faithfulness Latte, and Gentleness Cold Brew. These represent qualities to brew internally before rest. For me, preparing for rest starts with setting intentions for kindness towards myself—recognizing that I deserve breaks without guilt. Patience comes next; allowing myself permission to rest even if tasks remain unfinished. The goodness component reflects focusing on positive thoughts, reducing stress triggers, and creating a calm environment. Faithfulness involves commitment to prioritizing rest regularly to prevent burnout. Lastly, gentleness and self-control help me resist the urge to check emails or engage in stimulating activities right before bed, promoting better sleep quality. Incorporating these 'qualities' throughout the day can transform how you approach breaks and downtime. Small actions like deep breathing, mindful pauses, or even savoring a favorite herbal tea can enhance this process. Over time, these habits build resilience and improve mental clarity, making rest more effective and refreshing. Sharing these perspectives has helped me appreciate rest as an active, nurturing process rather than a passive state, encouraging more sustainable wellness in daily life.
