Amanita OC
#wipart of my #originalcharacter Amanita I was working on months ago.
So many of you have been curious about my Amanita OC, and I'm thrilled to share more about her world and creative process! When I set out to design Amanita, I really wanted to blend the mysterious allure of nature with a touch of dark magic. The name 'Amanita' itself is a nod to a certain type of mushroom, which heavily inspired her iconic mushroom-shaped hat with candles. I envisioned her as a forest witch, deeply connected to her surroundings, which is why I often depict her in water surrounded by cattails and reeds. Her tattered green and brown clothing isn't just for aesthetics; it tells a story of a life lived close to the wilderness, perhaps forging her own path away from conventional society. And those pointed ears and red eyes? They hint at something ancient, perhaps even a bit mischievous or predatory, definitely adding to her witch-like presence. The idea of her having sharp teeth came from wanting to give her a slightly feral, untamed edge, making her both beautiful and a little dangerous. The staff she carries is more than just a prop; it's an extension of her power, imbued with the magic of the forest. And in some of my artworks, like the close-up, you might notice a glowing green orb in her hand – that's a key element of her abilities, perhaps a source of her magic or a tool for scrying. Her long dark hair often flows with the wind or water, adding to her ethereal yet grounded presence. The contrast between her rugged attire and the delicate glow of the candles on her hat or the glowing green orb is something I consciously play with to highlight her duality – raw nature and refined magic. If you're thinking about creating your own fantasy OC, my biggest tip is to start with a core concept. What kind of magic do they wield? What's their connection to the world? For Amanita, it was the mushroom-witch archetype. Don't be afraid to pull inspiration from unexpected places – folklore, nature, even just a cool color palette! Thinking about small details, like a skull pendant or a unique hairstyle, can really bring your character to life. And remember, the 'work in progress' stage is where all the magic happens! It allows for evolution and refinement as you discover more about your character. I’m still developing her full backstory, but I envision her as a protector of ancient groves, a keeper of forgotten spells, or maybe even a solitary guardian of enchanted swamps. I’d love to hear what kind of magical characters you're working on, or what elements you find most compelling in fantasy art. Let me know in the comments what you think of Amanita's design journey!
