1 year after reno, here’s what I regret 😥

... Read moreReflecting on my renovation experience, I realized that some design choices looked good on paper but ended up being a hassle in daily life. For instance, venetian blinds are notoriously difficult to keep clean — each panel traps dust, requiring frequent and meticulous cleaning. From personal experience, switching to simpler window treatments like roller shades or curtains can save a lot of time and effort. Another feature I once coveted was the rain shower. It seemed luxurious, like a hotel experience at home. However, I rarely use it because it’s tough to clean, especially since I have to climb to reach the showerhead. Compared to a handheld shower, the rain shower’s pressure feels less effective, making it a less practical choice. For anyone planning similar features, consider how often you'll actually use and maintain them. I also chose fabric dining chairs for aesthetic appeal but quickly discovered their downside. They stain easily and require careful attention during meals. If you have kids or often entertain, more durable and easy-to-clean materials might be better. Leather or faux leather chairs, for example, are more forgiving and practical in everyday use. Overall, these lessons were learned through real-life use after renovation. High-maintenance designs can add stress rather than comfort, so it’s important to balance style with function. If you’re planning renovations, consider maintenance time seriously—your future self will thank you. Simple, easy-care features are often the best long-term investment.

new homes come with new smells but that “fresh renovation smell” is actually formaldehyde and VOC gases being released from carpentry, paint and adhesives 🥹 #sgreno #sgrenovation #sghome #formaldehyde #newhomeowner

REGRETS after living here for 3 years
Regret 1️⃣ We didn’t do a built-in overhead dish drying rack and this has led to our counter being perpetually cluttered 🥲 Since I cook 1 to 2 meals daily, the dishes don’t have time to dry before newly washed dishes come lol. Unless u are diligent enough to wipe dry and keep the dishes straight
