As an avid user of dry erase markers, I've often wondered about the versatility of Expo markers, particularly their unique low odor chisel tip variants. Recently, I decided to experiment by trying to transfer Expo marker ink onto water, curious if the pigment would spread, dissolve, or maintain its integrity. Using Ben’s low odor chisel tip markers, I drew on a glossy surface and then gently introduced water to see if the ink would detach or smear. Interestingly, the ink showed resistance to immediate dissolution, standing firm for a short time before gradually diffusing. This suggests that while the markers are primarily designed for dry erase surfaces, their ink compounds have some water interaction properties. This test highlights that Expo markers, including their low odor chisel types, should not be relied upon for water-based applications but might be used creatively in projects involving water if controlled carefully. The pigment’s behavior in water can inspire new artistic techniques or classroom demonstrations, especially for teaching kids about ink solubility and surface tension. For educators and artists alike, understanding the interaction of marker ink with water can open up fresh avenues for creative expression and science experiments. When performing similar tests, always ensure proper cleanup as dried marker ink can be stubborn. Overall, this small trial was a great hands-on approach to discovering more about your everyday stationery beyond their usual use.
