finding warmth in ultramax 400
i have been shooting a few rolls of kodak ultramax 400 recently, and i am starting to understand why so many people keep coming back to it.
every roll feels a little different, but they all seem to share the same gentle warmth. the colours are vibrant without feeling exaggerated, and the grain gives each photograph a texture that feels timeless.
this portrait was taken on a cloudy afternoon. i expected the light to be flat, but ultramax surprised me again. the greens felt alive, the skin tones stayed natural, and the whole scene carried the calm atmosphere i remembered when i pressed the shutter.
what i enjoy most is how the film does not try to steal the attention. it lets the place, the light, and the people speak for themselves. when the scans come back, they often remind me of the feeling of the day more than the exact details.
after a few rolls, i can see why ultramax 400 has become such a favourite. it is forgiving, full of character, and makes everyday moments feel like memories worth keeping.
