... Read moreAs an Ultrakill fan, I just couldn't resist putting pen to paper (or pencil to notebook, as these sketches show!) to capture the incredible design of V1. There's something so uniquely compelling about this speedy, blood-fueled robot, and I wanted to explore its various facets through art. It’s not just a character; it’s an icon of fast-paced action and stylistic brutality, and that energy is what I aimed to convey in every line. When I started these V1 Ultrakill sketches, I focused on some key aspects of its character design that make it so memorable. The sleek, almost minimalistic yet undeniably powerful form is instantly recognizable. I love how V1 combines sharp, angular lines with a surprisingly fluid silhouette, making it dynamic even in a static pose. You can see in my drawings how I tried to capture that balance – V1 standing with one hand on its hip, looking forward, maintains that confident, almost nonchalant readiness, hinting at the power within. The signature red and blue accents, though not always colored in a sketch, imply a vibrant energy that contrasts with its metallic shell. One of the most fun challenges was depicting V1's incredible mobility and the sheer variety of actions it performs in-game. That's why I included sketches of V1 in more unusual poses, like lying on its side, perhaps contemplating its next move with a book and a cup – a playful, almost human-like moment for a machine. Then there's the more dramatic, contorted pose, bending backward with arms and legs extended, which really pushed me to understand its underlying anatomy and how its various parts articulate during intense combat. Despite being a robot, V1 truly has a distinct personality that shines through its movements, and translating that into a drawing on a spiral-bound notebook page was a deeply rewarding experience. Each pose, whether action-packed or serene, tells a little story about the character. The lore and visual design of V1's abilities also played a big part in my artistic choices. The wing-like appendages on its back, though not always present in every iteration, are a fantastic detail that hints at its aerial prowess and speed. I made sure to include these in some of the sketches, such as V1 standing with arms raised and clasped, or kneeling with hands clasped in front. It adds an extra layer of visual interest to the V1 character design, suggesting its capability for both grace and devastation. Drawing these intricate details allowed me to appreciate the thought put into its overall aesthetic. What truly makes V1's design stand out, in my opinion, is its iconic head and visor. It conveys so much without needing traditional facial expressions – the silent, determined gaze. Every stroke in these Ultrakill V1 art pieces was an attempt to honor that iconic look and the character it represents. I spent a lot of time just observing in-game models and fan art to get a feel for its proportions and stylistic elements before beginning my own fan art journey. I hope these fan art sketches offer fellow fans a fresh perspective on V1 and perhaps inspire others to try their hand at drawing this truly 'smexy robot'! What are your favorite aspects of V1's design?
