Crispy Pork Tonkatsu Sandwich
Golden, crunchy, and glazed in a sweet-savory sauce with a bright herby mayo for balance.
Ingredients:
• Thin pork cutlets
• 2 large eggs
• 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
• ½ tsp salt
• ½ tsp pepper
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
• Oil for frying
• ¼ cup mayonnaise
• 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
• 1 tbsp chopped green onion tops (scallion tops)
• 1 tsp lime juice
• Lettuce
• Tomato slices
• Toasted sandwich buns
Tonkatsu Sauce:
• 1 tbsp ketchup
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 2 tsp oyster sauce
• 2 tsp sugar
Directions:
1. Whisk eggs, flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder into a smooth batter.
2. Dip pork cutlets in batter, coat in panko, and fry until golden and crispy.
3. Mix ketchup, Worcestershire, oyster sauce, and sugar for the Tonkatsu sauce.
4. Make the mayo: stir together mayo, chopped cilantro, chopped green onion tops, lime juice, and a pinch of salt.
5. Toast buns, spread the cilantro-green-onion mayo on both sides, layer lettuce, tomato, crispy pork, drizzle Tonkatsu sauce. Serve hot.
