Milan- Verona - Siena - Assisi - Rome

Hello Lemon8s it’s been a while since I’ve posted!

I recently just came back from my maiden trip to Italy and thought of sharing tips and experiences

Milan ⭐⭐⭐:

Started off our trip by flying SQ into Milan, honestly did not regret the 2days 1 night stay here as it is really a fashion city. So if you’re here to shop for branded brands this may be the place.

Also, one of my friends almost got pickpocketed on the subway at night! So be alert and careful

Verona ⭐⭐:

We took a train to Verona from Milan after which and tbh wasn’t one of my favourite cities/towns to visit as there wasn’t much unless you are intending to visit churches or Juliet’s House.

We really didn’t enjoy it much in Verona but worth the one time visit.

Siena ⭐⭐⭐⭐:

Again we took another train to Siena from Verona but this time round was tough as our train route was supposed to be Verona to Florence then to Siena but due to a track fault, we arrived late and was made to take a regional train which we felt really unsafe as we saw men loitering near us and one even flashed their butt in our faces.

But that being said, Siena is a beautiful medieval city/town! We stayed right in the city centre at a place called: Piazza Paradiso Accommodation Everyday was an uphill walk up the cobbled stone pathways but so worth it as we were in the middle of everything!!

Siena was also a very interesting place with tons of history and great food!

Assisi ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐:

Assisi was mine and my friends favourite part of the trip as it was a quaint but vibrant city/town with tons of history, good food, great churches to visit and nice views. We stayed directly opposite the Assisi Train Station at Hotel Moderno Assisi which made things so much easier as it was also directly opposite a bus stop which brings us up into the town centre

Rome ⭐⭐⭐⭐:

Rome was hectic. We also went during the Jubilee of Youths so there a ton of young people from different countries coming to Rome to celebrate this jubilee season.

Rome was filled with different iconic attractions like the colosseum, Trevi fountain (although this one is INSANE, too many people there), St Peter’s Basilica and etc. enjoyed our time there but after a quaint and chill time in Assisi was definitely an awakening

💡Tips and Tricks

1. Buy a handphone strap

- be it a wrist one or a cross body one, makes it tougher for pickpockets to snatch it off you

2. You can never be too safe

- my guy friend brought a personal alarm where if a tab was pulled it would sound a really loud screeching alarm to alert people

- frankly it was so necessary especially for the late night walk back to your accommodation or suspicious night trains

3. Anti theft bag (optional)

- not necessarily but good to have as I was able to lock my bag and know the items inside are safe! I got a Travelon cross body from amazon for about $45

4. Buy day passes for public transport if you can

- The bigger cities like Milan and Rome has day passes like 24hr/48hr/72hr

- so much cheaper than to use your credit card or a one time purchase

5. Bring a shower filter

- Italy is known to have hard water especially in older cities/towns like Siena and Assisi (peek 5th photo)

- you can get these easily from shopee for cheap at like less than $5 a piece

6. Italian trains are not as communicative

- we booked our train tickets afew months in advance and yet there was no mention that there was a train fault forcing us to take a bus catered by the train company and then a night regional train

- so do be prepared for those instances

7. FCO Rome’s Airport

- If you intend to use a lounge in FCO apparently they have a rule where they can only let you in 2 hours before your departure time

- this bumped us out quite abit as this would mean we will definitely have to leave before the 2 hour mark is up to make our way to the gates

8. Public toilets are chargeable

- do try to break your big notes so that you have small notes or coins for public toilets

9. If you’re travelling in July - August

- I would pack the following

- Linen

- Sunblock

- Hat/Cap

- UV umbrella

- Fan

- reuseable water bottle

- Lip balm

It was dry and hot

10. Book your attractions online

- especially for attractions in Rome like the colosseum

Well here’s another travel checked! Hope these help and are useful! Check back in on the next travel, Ciao!

Staying close to transport hubs such as Repubblica station can save you time and ease your travel around the city. When booking, use platforms like Agoda to grab great deals and read verified guest reviews to pick the best stay for your needs. From my own experience, choosing accommodation near public transport in Rome simplifies getting to attractions like the Colosseum or Trevi Fountain without hassle. It’s worth booking your Rome hotel in advance, especially during busy festival times when crowds peak. Also, don't overlook the value of day passes in Rome which allow unlimited access to buses and metro, making city travel economical and flexible. Combining a good location like Repubblica with these passes maximizes your sightseeing potential. Finally, when planning your Italy trip, consider the safety tips shared especially in bustling cities to avoid pickpocket incidents. Using anti-theft bags, carrying personal alarms, and being alert on public transport late at night can make a real difference in your comfort and security.
