As a passionate matcha enthusiast and cafe explorer, I've found that the true magic of matcha lies in its authentic preparation. A matcha whisked traditionally in a bowl reveals a creamier texture and fuller flavor that pre-mixed powders or machines just can't replicate. Over 2025, I visited a variety of unique cafes from Long Island to New Brunswick, and each spot brought its own twist on this beloved drink. Some standout experiences include the Crème Brûlée Uji Matcha from MOGE TEE in Huntington, where the balance of sweetness and earthy matcha notes was exceptional, and HARAZ COFFEE’s regular matcha latte which consistently offered smooth, rich flavors. Nitro Bar in Newport introduced me to a refreshing strawberry matcha, blending fresh fruitiness with traditional green tea vibes. What truly elevates these experiences is supporting small businesses that take pride in their craft. Many of these cafes offer inviting atmospheres that make every visit memorable, whether it's the cozy setting at HABIBI MOTOR CAFE with its delightful strawberry matcha almond croissant or the creative vibes at ISSHIKI in New York featuring their hot brown sugar matcha pumpkin spice. In addition to savoring incredible drinks, I enjoyed the community feel that these local spots foster. The art of matcha is more than just taste—it's about the ritual, the care in preparation, and sharing moments with others passionate about quality and authenticity. Looking ahead to 2026, I’m excited to continue this journey, discovering new cafes and perhaps uncovering even more innovative matcha creations. If you’re a fellow matcha lover, I encourage you to try whisked matcha at these places or in your own home—and don’t forget to support small local businesses that keep the culture of great coffee and tea alive!
