Ruby red monster

Okay, so I've been seeing a lot of buzz around new Monster Energy Ultra flavors lately, and when I spotted the Monster Energy Ultra Fantasy Ruby Red on the shelf, I knew I had to give it a try. The light pink can with that striking red faceted gem artwork immediately caught my eye – it just looked so intriguing and different from the usual Ultra lineup. As a big fan of the Ultra series for their zero-sugar profiles, my expectations were pretty high for this 'fantasy' flavor. When I first cracked open the can, I took a moment to take in the scent. It had a subtly sweet, almost fruity aroma, but nothing overtly strong or identifiable. Pouring it into a glass, the liquid itself was a very pale, almost clear pink, matching the aesthetic of the can. It definitely lives up to the 'light pink monster' description. Now for the taste test! My first sip was... interesting. The OCR mentioned it tasted like 'bubbly crystal light or Gatorade,' and I can definitely see where that comparison comes from. It has a light, somewhat artificial fruitiness that reminded me a bit of those powdered drink mixes. There's a certain tartness, but it's quickly balanced by a sweetness that isn't overpowering, which is typical for the Ultra line. The carbonation is standard for Monster – nice and fizzy without being overly aggressive. However, as I continued to drink it, I found myself struggling to pinpoint a specific 'ruby red' fruit flavor. It felt a bit generic, like a blend of red berries without any one note standing out. While it wasn't *bad*, it also didn't excite my taste buds in the way some other Ultra flavors do. The 3/10 rating I gave it felt pretty accurate by the end of the can. It didn't have that refreshing, crisp punch that I look for in an energy drink, especially one from the Ultra range. Compared to other Monster Ultra Fantasy Ruby Red alternatives or even other Ultras like the classic Ultra Zero (white can), Ultra Paradise, or Ultra Fiesta, this one just didn't hold up for me. Those flavors have distinct, bold profiles that are instantly recognizable and usually quite refreshing. The Ruby Red, unfortunately, felt a bit muted and forgettable in comparison. It gave me the energy boost I expect from a Monster, but the flavor experience wasn't something I'd crave again. So, who might actually enjoy this fantasy ruby red flavor? If you're someone who prefers very subtle, less intense fruit flavors in your energy drinks, or if you're a fan of the 'bubbly crystal light' type of taste, then this might be right up your alley. It’s certainly not offensive, just not particularly groundbreaking. For me, personally, my initial thought after trying it was exactly what I shared: I'd only repurchase it if it was literally the only Monster in the store. It just didn't make enough of an impact to become a regular go-to. It's a shame, because the monster ruby red branding and the can design are absolutely fantastic! I really wanted to love it. But sometimes, even the prettiest cans hide a flavor that just doesn't hit the mark for everyone. I'm curious to hear what others think about this one!
