I’m healing, but he wants to stay close

I never thought I’d be in this place where my ex wants to be friends, but I’m still healing. It’s complicated because part of me wants to be kind and keep things peaceful, but the other part knows that rushing into friendship before I’m ready will only slow down my healing. I’m learning that it’s okay to set boundaries, even if it feels uncomfortable or makes me feel guilty. Healing isn’t a straight path, and it doesn’t have to include staying close to someone who was once a big part of my heart. Right now, my focus is on me my peace, my growth, and my future. If friendship happens later, great. If not, I’m okay with that too. I deserve the time and space to heal fully without feeling pressured to pretend everything is fine. This is my journey, and I’m choosing to honor it every step of the way. ❤️

... Read moreHealing after a breakup can be a deeply personal and complex process, especially when your ex expresses a desire to stay close or maintain a friendship. Space helps you heal better, as it allows emotional wounds to mend without unnecessary pressure or confusion. It is important to recognize that healing is not linear—some days you may feel ready to reconnect, while others you may find yourself pulled back by memories and emotions from the past. The key to progressing on your healing journey is putting yourself and your needs first. Respecting your own pace means acknowledging your feelings and understanding that it's okay to set firm boundaries even if it feels uncomfortable or brings up guilt. This can include limiting contact or saying no to friendship until you’ve had sufficient time to heal fully. Creating healthy boundaries fosters personal growth and peace of mind. It gives you control over the healing environment and helps prevent feelings of being overwhelmed or emotionally dependent on your ex’s wishes. Healing with these boundaries in place ensures that when, and if, you choose to reconnect as friends, it will come from a place of strength and genuine readiness rather than external pressure. Ultimately, choosing yourself and prioritizing self-care allows for a more authentic recovery. Accepting that the healing path may look different for everyone and practicing compassion toward yourself during this time greatly enhances emotional well-being. Remember, your healing journey is your own, and honoring it step-by-step is an act of courage and self-love.

Girl I feel for you so much! I’m going through this too. We were together for 3 years. Work together. Did everything together. Now he still wants to do things together, on top of working together & I’m just not handling this well at all 😭 I’m so proud of you for putting yourself first 🫶🏼
