WHY Are Period Farts Built Different?

I swear period farts are a different species 😭

Like they don’t even sound normal. They sound charged.

Hormones slow everything down during your cycle, so gas builds up and escapes with way more force which is why it’s always SO loud.

Mine always comes with no warning and the worst timing possible. I’ll be silent all day then BOOM I sound like I started a chainsaw 😭💨

Do yours get louder too? Or is it just me and my stomach fighting for its life every 28 days??

... Read moreMany people experience loud and sudden gas during their menstrual cycle, often referred to as "period farts." This phenomenon is mainly caused by hormonal changes, especially the rise in progesterone, which slows down the digestive system. When digestion slows, food moves more sluggishly through the intestines, leading to an increased buildup of gas and pressure. As a result, when gas finally escapes, it can be much louder and more forceful than usual. This natural process can feel quite embarrassing, especially since these farts tend to happen unexpectedly and at inconvenient moments, such as at work or around others. It’s common to feel like your body is "fighting for its life" every month, as your digestive tract and reproductive system are closely linked. To help manage period-related digestive discomfort and excessive gas, consider adjusting your diet during your cycle. Eating smaller, more frequent meals rich in fiber can help keep digestion moving smoothly. Avoiding foods known to cause gas, such as beans, carbonated drinks, and certain vegetables like broccoli and cabbage, may reduce the volume of trapped gas. Additionally, staying hydrated and incorporating gentle exercise can stimulate digestion and ease bloating. Remember, while loud period farts can be embarrassing, they're a normal part of how your body responds to hormonal changes. Sharing experiences like these helps normalize natural bodily functions and reduces the stigma around menstruation and digestive health. If digestive symptoms seem severe or are accompanied by other health concerns, consulting a healthcare professional can provide personalized advice and support.
