Do You Wear The Same Underwear Your Entire Period?

Let’s get real about period hygiene. Most people focus on changing pads regularly and yes, that’s super important for comfort, odor control, and preventing infections. But what about your underwear? Do you really need to swap it every single time you change your pad, or is that overkill?

Here’s the deal if your underwear isn’t stained, damp, or uncomfortable, it’s actually fine to keep wearing it while swapping pads. The key is keeping your vulva clean and dry, not necessarily changing fabric every hour. Of course, if you’re prone to infections or just like that fresh feeling, go ahead and change them but it’s not a hygiene crime if you don’t.

do you go full swap mode every pad change, or do you stick to your favorite pair until the end of your period? Be honest, this is a safe space. Your answer might just make someone else rethink their routine. #cozychats #lemon8challenge #periodproducts #periodguide #periodstruggles

... Read moreWhen it comes to period hygiene, many people wonder if changing underwear every time they change a pad is essential. According to experts, the primary focus should be on keeping the vulva clean and dry rather than constantly changing fabric as often as pads. This is important because maintaining dryness helps prevent irritation and infection, which are common period concerns. If your underwear remains dry, unstained, and comfortable, it is generally safe to continue wearing the same pair throughout the day while swapping out pads frequently. However, if you notice dampness, staining, or discomfort, changing your underwear is advised to promote better hygiene and comfort. Some innovative period product brands like THINX have revolutionized period underwear by designing reusable underwear that provides proven protection, allowing people to feel comfortable and secure without needing multiple changes. These specially designed garments can absorb menstrual flow and help reduce odor and irritation. Everyone's body and lifestyle are different, so it’s important to listen to your comfort cues. For those who experience frequent infections or sensitivity during their periods, changing underwear more regularly can be a beneficial preventative step. Conversely, if you prefer the fresh feeling of putting on clean underwear more often, there is no harm in doing so; it mostly comes down to personal preference. The key takeaway is that while hygiene-conscious people prioritize changing pads regularly, worrying about changing underwear with every single pad swap isn’t necessary unless the underwear is soiled or uncomfortable. This approach makes period care less overwhelming while still supporting good hygiene. Ultimately, your period routine should be what works best for you, balancing comfort, cleanliness, and practical convenience. Sharing honest experiences about period habits can help others rethink their routines, fostering a more open and supportive conversation about menstrual health.

I change my pad every few hours, depending on my flow, and change underwear when I shower every night. Unless there happens to be any overflow or sweating. Then it's wash up the lady parts, then clean underwear and pad.
