Which Crab Legs Are You Choosing?
I found crab leg options at both Aldi and Kroger:
Robi Sea Snow Crab Clusters (Aldi)
Specially Selected Wild Caught Snow Crab Clusters (Kroger)
Wild North Atlantic Snow Crab Clusters (Kroger)
Kroger Crab Selects Leg Style Crab (Kroger)
Whether you’re planning a seafood boil, a crab leg dinner, or just stocking up on seafood favorites, both stores had some interesting options.
In my experience exploring crab leg options at popular grocery stores like Aldi and Kroger, I’ve found that variety and quality vary quite a bit depending on what you’re looking for. The Robi Sea Snow Crab Clusters from Aldi come fully cooked and frozen, making them a convenient choice if you're short on time but still crave real crab flavor. Their origin from the cold Atlantic waters of Canada ensures a firm, sweet crab meat that is ideal for a hearty seafood boil. At Kroger, there are several options worth considering. The Specially Selected Wild Caught Snow Crab Clusters and Wild North Atlantic Snow Crab Clusters are also fully cooked and frozen, offering great taste and texture. Kroger's Crab Selects Leg Style Crab, which is an imitation crab meat, can be a budget-friendly alternative but differs in texture and flavor from the wild-caught varieties. It’s great for recipes where crab flavor is desired but the genuine texture isn’t as crucial, such as crab salads or sushi rolls. One factor I consider when choosing crab legs is the nutritional value. The wild-caught snow crab clusters provide a good protein source—about 13 to 16 grams per serving—with low fat content and calories around 60 to 70 per 3-ounce serving. They are also heart-healthy and gluten-free, which is important for many health-conscious consumers. For freezing and storage, these crab clusters keep well when maintained properly in the freezer, preserving their freshness until ready to eat. Because they are fully cooked, you only need to reheat them gently, often by steaming or briefly boiling, to enjoy tender and flavorful crab legs. Personally, I prefer going for the wild-caught options despite the slightly higher price because of their authentic taste and nutritional benefits. If you’re planning a seafood boil or a special crab leg dinner, investing in these quality products pays off. However, for casual crab dishes, the leg-style imitation crab can work as an accessible alternative. When choosing crab legs, always check labels for cooking instructions, origin, and nutritional information to make the best choice for your meal and budget. Whether from Aldi or Kroger, both stores offer decent options, but understanding the differences helps you pick the one that aligns best with your needs and taste preferences.

Just had the Wild North Atlantic brand the other night. It has about 5-6 clusters per box. We ate 3 boxes between 5 people plus 2 lbs of shrimp, potatoes and corn. Kroger also has a 4 lb box of the same brand but they’re usually out where I live.
