Fried Cheesecake Was NOT What I Expected

I finally tried Zaxby’s Fried Cheesecake Bites because the idea of fried cheesecake honestly sounded like something I had to try and y’all I hated it. 😭

I went into this expecting creamy, rich cheesecake with a crispy outside and strawberry sauce to balance everything out. Instead, the fried coating completely took over the dessert for me.

The texture and flavor reminded me way more of a fried donut with strawberry jam than cheesecake. And unfortunately, the strawberry sauce didn’t save it. I kept waiting for that creamy cheesecake flavor to come through, but it just wasn’t doing it for me.

What I didn’t like

The fried coating was too dominant

It tasted more like fried dough than cheesecake

The strawberry sauce didn’t balance it out for me

The dessert felt heavier than I expected

I just didn’t enjoy the combination

I know this is probably an unpopular opinion because people clearly enjoy these, but I’m giving them a PASS. Maybe I went in with the wrong expectations, but when I hear fried cheesecake, I want to taste the cheesecake!

Would I buy them again? Absolutely not.

Have you tried Zaxby’s Fried Cheesecake Bites? Tell me if I’m crazy or if you agree!

... Read moreWhen I first heard about fried cheesecake, I imagined a perfect balance of creamy, tangy cheesecake wrapped in a light, crispy batter that enhanced its flavor without overshadowing it. But after trying Zaxby’s Fried Cheesecake Bites, I realized this isn’t always how it turns out in practice. The dominant fried coating reminded me more of a sugary fried donut rather than the rich cheesecake flavor I was craving. This experience made me think about how fried desserts can be tricky — the frying process can sometimes mask the original dessert’s flavor, especially when the coating is thick or too sweet. In my experience, the key to a great fried cheesecake is a delicate, thin crust that adds texture but lets the cheesecake flavor shine through. Additionally, pairing it with a complementary sauce—ideally something tangy or fruity—can help balance the richness. Unfortunately, the strawberry sauce here felt underwhelming and couldn’t cut through the heaviness of the fried shell. For anyone else considering trying fried cheesecake, I’d suggest managing expectations. It’s a dessert that can feel quite different from classic cheesecake, sometimes leaning more towards a fried pastry with a creamy center rather than a true cheesecake experience. If you prefer traditional cheesecake, this might not satisfy your cravings. On the other hand, if you’re open to novel twists on desserts, you might appreciate the crispy contrast even if the cheesecake flavor is subtle. Ultimately, my takeaway is that not every innovative food idea works out the way we hope. Trying new foods is all about experience and personal preference—so while Zaxby’s Fried Cheesecake Bites weren’t for me, I encourage others to try them and decide for themselves. Have you tried fried cheesecake before? What was your experience? Sharing these personal food adventures helps all of us navigate new tastes and figure out what truly wins our approval.

Eat. I actually think they are pretty good. A bit greasy but still good.
