... Read moreOkay, so you’ve seen how incredibly easy and delicious those air fryer bacon-wrapped pickle spears are, right? I mean, who doesn't love that salty, tangy crunch wrapped in crispy, savory bacon? It's seriously become one of my favorite go-to snacks for game nights or when I just need a quick, satisfying bite. But you know what? A lot of people also adore bacon-wrapped pickle *chips*, and while my main recipe uses spears, I totally get the appeal of the chip version! The great news is, you can absolutely adapt this air fryer method for pickle chips too, and they are just as fantastic, if not even more poppable. If you're looking to make the 'chip' version, here’s how I approach it. First, you'll want to choose sturdy dill pickle chips, or even better, slice your dill pickle spears into thicker 'chip-like' rounds. This prevents them from getting too soggy or falling apart. Pat them really dry – this is crucial for that ultimate crispiness, just like with the spears! For the bacon, you’ll want to cut each strip into smaller pieces, maybe halves or even thirds, depending on the size of your pickle chips. Thicker cut bacon works great for spears, but for chips, a regular or thin-cut bacon might be easier to wrap and get crispy faster. Wrap each chip snugly with a piece of bacon, making sure it’s a single layer, and secure it with a toothpick if needed. This helps them hold their shape during cooking. When it comes to air frying bacon-wrapped pickle chips, you might find they cook a little faster than the spears due to their smaller size. I usually start checking them around 7-8 minutes at 375°F (a slightly higher temp than spears, but keep an eye on them!), looking for that beautiful golden-brown, crispy bacon. Don't overcrowd your air fryer basket; cook them in batches if necessary to ensure even airflow and maximum crispiness. Want to take these crispy treats to the next level? I love experimenting with different flavors! Sometimes I sprinkle a little ranch seasoning, a dash of smoked paprika, or garlic powder on the bacon before wrapping for an extra kick. For a sweet and savory twist, a tiny pinch of brown sugar over the bacon works wonders – it caramelizes beautifully! And don't even get me started on dipping sauces! While they're perfect on their own, a side of sriracha mayo, creamy dill dip, or even a classic ranch dressing elevates them even further. The air fryer truly is a game-changer for these. It gives you that incredible crunch without all the grease of deep frying, making them feel a little lighter, too. Whether you're making the spears or the chips, the key is always to start with dry pickles and not to rush the cooking. That golden-brown, bubbly bacon is your sign of perfection! I love serving these as an appetizer for parties, a fun movie night snack, or honestly, just whenever I'm craving something savory and satisfying. Give them a try with chips, too, and let me know how you like them – you might just find your new favorite snack!
