I had a little pre-Mid-life Crisis in 2019. I pulled an Early 00s Britney Spears and shaved all my hair off. I was stuck looking like a milk dud for about a month before my hair started growing back. My scalp was freezing idk how boys do it😂😭Now my hair grows back fairly quickly so that wasn’t an issue of mine. I can even FINALLY pull it back into a little ponytail😭⭐️ can’t wait for my locs to reach mid-back. !!!👍🏽

... Read moreHey everyone! So, you’ve probably seen my original post about taking the plunge and shaving off all my hair. It was a *moment*, to say the least! I know a lot of you might be asking yourselves, 'should I cut all my hair off?' or 'what happens if I cut all my hair off?' Let me tell you, it's a huge decision, and I’m here to share more about my personal journey, from that impulsive cut to rocking my beautiful locs today.
Back in 2019, that 'pre-Mid-life Crisis' wasn't just a fleeting thought; it was a deep need for change. I felt stuck, and for me, hair had always been a big part of my identity. So, cutting it all off was an act of liberation, a way to shed the old and embrace the new. It wasn't entirely planned; one minute I was contemplating, the next I was pulling an Early 00s Britney Spears. If you’re thinking about taking the plunge, really sit with your 'why.' Is it for a fresh start, to escape hair damage, or just pure curiosity? Understanding your motivation can make the 'after' much easier to navigate.
The immediate aftermath was... interesting! I remember looking in the mirror and thinking, 'Wow, I really did that!' That "milk dud with hair" look was definitely a phase. My scalp was freezing, which honestly, I hadn't prepared for at all – how do boys deal with that all the time?! 😂 There were moments of surprise, even a little distress, as captured in some of the images from that time (though my hair wasn't orange, the emotion was spot on!). But quickly, that feeling transformed into a sense of empowerment. It forced me to look beyond my hair and appreciate my features in a new way. Learning to style minimal hair, even just with headbands, became a fun challenge.
Luckily, my hair grows back fairly quickly, so the 'milk dud' phase didn't last forever. Seeing the new growth emerge was incredibly exciting! I focused on keeping my scalp healthy, drinking plenty of water, and using gentle products to encourage strong growth. As it started to lengthen, I knew I wanted to embrace a style that felt authentic to me. That's when I decided to get my hair re-locked. You can see in my photos how beautifully my dark, medium-length locs have come along since that re-locking session. It truly felt like a barber transformation, not just a haircut, but a whole new chapter for me.
For those curious about the locs journey (or 'rambut gimbal' as some call them!), it’s been incredible. From my initial re-locking, nurturing them has become a ritual. I've learned so much about caring for this specific hair type. While I didn't consider 'what hair type do I have?' before shaving, understanding it during my locs journey has been crucial for proper maintenance and growth. Now, being able to pull my locs back into a little ponytail is such a milestone 😭⭐️, and I'm eagerly awaiting the day they reach mid-back. If you're considering a dramatic haircut or even a shaved down look, just know that your hair journey doesn't end there – it's often just the beginning of an amazing transformation!
