POV: God told me to stop eating store bought bread
It’s been about 2 months of going commercial bread free. This is something that I heard to do while asking God what to do about my health. Though my journey hasn’t been perfect (fast food is almost all bread 😩), I’ve been able to cut about 90% out of my diet.
Commercial breads contain lots of additives, dough conditioners and preservatives that can be hard for digestion.
The rule is; if I want it, I have to bake it myself. So far I’ve been able to bake:
🥯 Bagels- a bit difficult to make, but higher in protein and last about 5 days
Cinnamon Rolls- there’s a learning curve but once you get it down it’s easy. This is a once-in a-while treat 2-3 days
🧈Buttermilk Biscuits- this is a tried and true bake. Switched it up by making strawberry buttermilk, and folding in strawberries. I love making biscuits but they’re very rich so I don’t make them that often. 3 days tops on these
☕️Scones- very easy to make and easy to flavor. There’s are recipe on my blog. Lasts about 3 days
🍞Milk Bread loaf and rolls- moderate in difficulty but usually I can make enough bread for my family of 4 that lasts about 5 days
🥖I’m now working on my first sourdough starter and trailed my first loaf, using organic bread flour. This is the hardest bread to master but I feel like it’s the best to digest, and try to make other baked items with. My loaf lasted about a week. I’ll let you know when I name my starter 😂
Can’t wait to keep practicing!
Overall this has been a positive journey. I feel better; less bloated, more energetic with less of a crash after eating one of these items vs store bought. I can’t wait to keep going.
