🖤 We quote John 10:10 all the time.
"The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy."
And we immediately go to the devil. Spiritual warfare. The enemy.
But can I offer you a different lens today?
Because sometimes the thief doesn't look like an attack.
Sometimes the thief looks like years of just trying to make it through.
Survival mode is a thief.
And it doesn't announce itself. It doesn't show up dramatic. It just quietly takes — over months, over years, over decades — until one day you look up and realize something is missing. Several somethings.
Here's what survival mode actually stole from me. And maybe from you too.
🌿 Your creativity. The ideas stopped coming — or they came and you didn't have the energy to do anything with them. Creating felt like a luxury you couldn't afford when surviving was the full-time job.
🌿 Your voice. Not just speaking up — but knowing what you even think. What you want. What you believe. Your voice got quieter and quieter until you stopped noticing the silence.
🌿 Your rest. Real rest. Not just sleep — but the ability to stop without guilt. To be still without anxiety. To put something down without the fear that everything falls apart if you do.
🌿 Your desire. The things you used to want — for yourself, not for anyone else — stopped feeling relevant. You stopped daydreaming. Stopped planning. Stopped wanting things that were just yours.
🌿 Your identity. This one is the deepest. Because when you survive long enough you stop asking who am I and start asking what do I still have to do. And slowly the woman underneath all the responsibility becomes a stranger.
That is the survival tax.
And Jesus did not come so you could pay it forever.
The second half of John 10:10 is the part we sometimes rush past — "I came so that they may have life and have it abundantly."
Not eventually. Not in heaven only. Not after you finally get it together.
Abundantly. Here. Now. In this body. In this season.
The thief already took enough.
It is time to take it back.
