How I minimize stress✨

So many of us have stressful lives. So often we hear we need to minimize stress but all the “stressers” in our lives are things we cannot avoid. Work, school, balancing relationships, or managing a household. Stress increases cortisol, increasing inflammation in the body which can cause or worsen chronic illness! Here’s how I minimize my stress -

1. Say no: It’s okay to say no when people ask you to do things. Don’t say yes just because you are able or can fit it in your already busy schedule. I’ve learned to say no when I know I won’t show up in my best form or won’t be helpful because I’ve had no time to rest or needed to rush.

2. Work to your best ability, but don’t be hard on yourself: We all mess up sometimes. We’re human and make mistakes. Life happens and prevents us from being there. What’s done is done. Any reasonable person will understand. You do your best when you work, volunteer, whatever it is and that’s all you can do. Don’t worry about the past or what has happened.

3. Don’t worry about what hasn’t happened: Life throws us some hard balls sometimes. But also, life can be phenomenal! Take it all as it comes, climb the mountain when you get to the base, and enjoy the view when you reach the top :)

4. Prioritize your health/rest: You cannot show up your best for ANYTHING if you are not doing well. Rest even if it’s just sleep, a calming breath, a cup of tea, whatever it looks like for you, is so crucial! when you have a good amount of time to rest, ENJOY IT! Don’t be thinking about everything that needs to happen when that time is over.

I’m not perfect at this. I had an incredibly stressful month working 58 hours a week trying to make deadlines at my second job. But this month I have time to rest and enjoy my time! I’m thankful for it :)

One effective approach is adopting mindfulness practices, such as meditation or yoga, which can significantly reduce stress levels. Studies have shown that even a few minutes of deep breathing can lower cortisol levels, the primary stress hormone. Additionally, finding a supportive community can enhance personal resilience. Engaging in self-care activities such as journaling, pursuing hobbies, or simply spending time in nature allows for mental rejuvenation. Remember that it's okay to seek professional help when needed. Therapists provide valuable strategies for coping with overwhelming situations, developing resilience, and enhancing emotional intelligence. It's imperative to recognize that stress management is a journey—acknowledge your progress and celebrate small victories along the way. By implementing these strategies, you can create a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Thank you for this post! I stress out all the time and I’m seeing a therapist for it. I used to be the “yes” girl at work years ago. Now I have boundaries. However, I wish the stress and anxiety would go away. Hopefully one day❤️
