From my experience, some dogs simply don’t adapt well to new environments filled with other dogs and unfamiliar caregivers. The phrase "My niece ain’t having it" perfectly captures that stubborn refusal that makes daycare visits a challenge. Doggy daycares are designed to offer socialization and exercise opportunities for our pets, but they’re not a perfect fit for every dog. Some pups may feel anxious or overwhelmed by the busy environment, loud noises, or interacting with multiple dogs depending on their temperament. In such cases, it’s important for dog parents to observe and understand their dog’s reactions. I’ve learned that gradual introductions to daycare, such as short visits or accompanying the dog initially, can help ease anxiety. Bringing a favorite toy or blanket can also provide comfort during the stay. On the other hand, when a dog continuously resists or shows stress signals, exploring alternatives like home pet sitting or smaller playgroups might be necessary. The call to “Come to Daycares w/us” is tempting, especially as many offer amazing social and exercise benefits, but staying attuned to your dog’s individual needs ensures their wellbeing. After all, the goal is to keep our furry family members happy and stress-free, whether at home or with a pack of new friends.
