My spoiled baby #beardie #beardeddragon
It's true, my bearded dragon is absolutely spoiled, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Every single morning, without fail, as soon as his lights come on, he starts his little dance. It’s a clear signal: he wants his buggies! Watching him perk up, head held high, scanning the vivarium for his breakfast, is probably one of the cutest parts of my day. It's not just about hunger; it’s a whole ritual, a display of his vibrant personality. For those of you who also have a beardie, or are thinking of getting one, you'll know that these creatures have very specific needs and, yes, very specific wants! When I say he wants his buggies, I mean he really wants them. Mealworms, crickets, dubia roaches – these are his absolute favorites. It's so important to offer a variety of insects, dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements, to ensure they get all the nutrients they need. I try to make his morning meal a mix of live feeders to keep him engaged and provide that natural hunting instinct enrichment. Beyond the morning meal, what makes a bearded dragon truly spoiled and well-cared for? It's a combination of things. Firstly, a proper enclosure is key. They need plenty of space to roam, climb, and bask. A good basking spot, reaching temperatures around 100-105°F (38-41°C), is crucial for their digestion and overall health. I always make sure his basking lamp is perfect, along with a UVB light, which is just as vital as their food for bone health. Hydration is another big one. While they get some moisture from their food, a shallow water dish or even occasional misting can be beneficial, especially if they enjoy drinking droplets. Sometimes, a warm bath once or twice a week also helps with shedding and keeping them hydrated. But being 'spoiled' isn't just about physical needs; it's about enrichment and interaction too. Bearded dragons are surprisingly social creatures. Mine loves coming out for supervised exploration time, climbing on my shoulders, or just chilling on my lap while I read. These moments build a bond and keep them mentally stimulated. Don't forget toys! Simple things like a small ball or a soft blanket they can burrow under can provide entertainment. And finally, regular vet check-ups are a must. Even if they seem perfectly healthy, an annual check-up with a reptile vet can catch potential issues early. It’s part of being a responsible pet parent and ensuring my 'spoiled' little dinosaur lives a long, happy, and healthy life. So, yes, he gets his morning buggies, but he also gets a whole lot of love and dedicated care, because that's what truly makes a bearded dragon thrive!
