POV: you get financially abused

We met in November can you tell

4/2 Edited to

... Read moreFinancial abuse is an insidious form of control that many people, unfortunately, experience without immediately realizing it. It often starts subtly, such as a partner monitoring your spending habits excessively or restricting your access to money and financial accounts. From my own experience, I noticed how my financial decisions became heavily scrutinized, and I felt pressure not from an occasional check-in but from constant monitoring, which gradually eroded my autonomy. One key indicator of financial abuse is the systematic control over your credit and debt. For example, keeping tabs on credit scores frequently, like the details captured in credit reports with terms such as "VantageScore 3.0" and monitoring accounts reported to bureaus like Equifax, can be a sign that an abuser is trying to manipulate your financial standing or limit your credit-building ability. It's important to check your credit reports regularly by yourself to ensure no unauthorized changes or accounts appear. If you suspect you are a victim of financial abuse, it's vital to seek support. Reach out to trusted friends, financial advisors, or support organizations that can help you regain control. Creating a separate bank account or obtaining a credit card in your name alone can be empowering first steps towards rebuilding financial independence. Remember, financial abuse can happen to anyone, and no one deserves to be controlled through their money. Awareness is the first step to breaking free from this cycle. Educating yourself about credit scores and your financial rights, and having a support system can make a significant difference. Taking back control of your finances not only improves your economic stability but also restores your confidence and autonomy in all areas of life.
