When the thrift trip turns into a complete drought 💀

For Episode 16 of The Neon Graveyard, I brought my buddy Ryan along so I could show him the ropes and teach him how I approach the hunt.

We were ready to cook.

Goodwill was not.

Everything felt picked over, half the clothes looked like they had been balled up for a week, and then we discovered something even worse — the color discounts we used to get were GONE.

Thus, Greedwill & The Drought was born.

But honestly, this is part of what makes thrifting fun. You never know whether you’re walking into a gold mine or spending an hour digging through racks trying to find ONE piece worth grabbing.

Come along for the hunt and see if Ryan and I managed to save this trip.

... Read moreThrifting can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster. One trip you walk away with amazing vintage finds, and the next you hit what I like to call a "thrift drought." Recently, when Ryan and I headed to Goodwill for our usual hunt, it was one of those tougher days. The racks were dry, clothes looked neglected, and the color-coded discounts we'd come to rely on had mysteriously vanished—something that really shook up our strategy. I realize many thrifters out there have faced similar challenges. When stores tighten discounts or the best pieces get snapped up early, it forces us to get creative. On this trip, instead of leaving frustrated, Ryan and I embraced the challenge by refining our approach—searching deeper, checking overlooked sections, and shifting focus from quantity to quality. This mindset shift turned what could’ve been a bust into an opportunity to discover unique pieces we might have otherwise missed. One key takeaway: thrifting isn’t always about scoring big every time, but about the thrill of the hunt and knowing when to adapt. That’s part of why I film The Neon Graveyard series—to share the real ups and downs of thrifting life, including the moments of "greedwill" where discounts disappear and thrifting feels like a drought. For those in the reseller community or anyone passionate about vintage clothing and Goodwill finds, understanding these ebbs and flows can really enhance your thrifting game. If you’re struggling with fewer bargains in your area, consider exploring different stores, visiting at varied times, or even connecting with local thrifting groups for tips on where treasures might still be hiding. Remember, as frustrating as a picked-over Goodwill can be, it often leads to a more thoughtful and rewarding hunt. Keep your eyes open, and who knows—you might just save your own trip during a thrift drought.
