When I bought mine, I made sure it was a good size – large enough for an adult possum to comfortably enter without feeling too cramped, but not so big that a smaller animal could easily escape or get injured. Before doing anything, I checked my local wildlife regulations, as every area has different rules about relocating wild animals. When I was ready, I carefully covered the trap with a blanket to keep the possum calm during transport. I chose a suitable release site several miles away from my home – a wooded area with access to water, far from residential areas. Opening the trap remotely or with a long stick allowed the possum to scurry away without me getting too close. It was a relief to see it go free! Remember, the goal of trapping possums is usually to resolve a nuisance issue, not to harm the animal. With the right approach and a little patience, you can manage these nocturnal visitors effectively and humanely.
