Spooky day in Monroe, MI
On the last day of out vacation, we made a pit stop in Monroe to visit the Museum of Horror and Nocturnal, a Gothic coffee shop!
The Museum was fun. They had a good mix of real and Hollywood horror artifacts. I took so many photos, but only sharing a few here. It was only $45 for all 5 of us to go!
And a 3 minute walk from the museum is a gothic coffee bar that was celebrating summerween with their Haunted Campfire S’more’s latte. It was so good and the little ghosts in the cup were so cute! We also got bat cookies and a pumpkin cupcake with cream-cheese icing that was to die for.

It makes you wonder about the natural world's own horrors. Another moment that really stood out was seeing the plaster cast of VINCENT PRICE's face, dramatically lit by purple light. It brought a touch of old-school horror royalty to the modern exhibit. And who knew a Zebra Skull could look so majestic yet unsettling? The museum really does offer a fantastic mix, making it easy to spend a good hour or two exploring every nook and cranny. For only $45 for a group, it’s an absolute steal for such a fascinating deep dive into both fictional and real-world frights. Just a short, three-minute walk away, you step into another world at Nocturnal, the gothic coffee shop. The exterior itself sets the mood, with its dark aesthetic and even a skeleton prop in the front window alongside a red neon sign hinting at 'LIVE MUSIC.' Inside, the brick walls, dark wood, and wrought iron details create an incredibly atmospheric space. Even with a bit of a line, as the photos show, it was completely worth the wait for the experience. Their 'Haunted Campfire S’more’s latte' was not only delicious but also incredibly photogenic with its cute little ghost decals. It felt like a liquid Halloween treat! And you absolutely cannot leave without trying some of their baked goods. The black bat-shaped cookies with gold flecks were almost too pretty to eat, and the pumpkin cupcake with cream-cheese icing was truly heavenly. It’s clear they put a lot of love into their themed treats. The vibe at Nocturnal is just perfect for unwinding after the museum – a place where you can sip a spooky latte, enjoy a themed pastry, and soak in the unique gothic ambiance. It’s definitely a must-visit for anyone who appreciates a touch of darkness with their caffeine!
