TOEIC Part 5, his, him or himself? Look at just 2 points.
Pronouns in Part 5 options look similar, his / him / himself / he 😵💫
You don't have to translate the whole sentence. You can always answer two points.
❇ See words after spaces
• as a noun → his / their (test _ _ _ new software → their)
• As a verb → he / they (because _ _ _ did not define → they)
• Nothing according to → hers / theirs (turned out to be _ _ _. → hers)
✍ If the channel is behind the verb or preposition, ask, "Is it the same person as the president?"
• Yes → himself (Mr. Alden familiarized himself with...)
• Not → him
• by himself = Do it alone
Use the word "often," not "always," because there is something to be careful about.
• His can stand alone (The blue bag is his.)
• its = its · it's = it is
• -Self must match the number: alone himself / herself · many themselves

จากประสบการณ์ตอนที่เตรียมสอบ TOEIC ผมพบว่าการวิเคราะห์สรรพนามใน Part 5 ไม่ยากอย่างที่คิด หากรู้จักวิธีดูจุดสำคัญ 2 จุดนี้จริงๆ จะช่วยให้เราไม่ต้องแปลทั้งประโยคให้เสียเวลา จุดแรกคือการดูคำหลังช่องว่างนั้นเป็นคำอะไร หากเป็นคำนาม ให้เลือกใช้ his หรือ their เพราะเป็นคำแสดงความเป็นเจ้าของ เช่น "___ new software" ต้องเติม their ซึ่งหมายถึง "ซอฟต์แวร์ของพวกเขา" แต่ถ้าคำหลังเป็นกริยา เช่น "because ___ did not define" จะใช้ he หรือ they ตามประธาน จุดที่สองสำคัญมาก คือเมื่อช่องว่างอยู่หลังคำกริยาหรือบุพบท ต้องถามตัวเองว่า "คนในช่องว่างเป็นคนเดียวกับประธานหรือไม่?" ถ้าใช่ต้องเติม himself เพื่อแสดงความหมายว่า "เขาทำเอง" เช่นประโยค "Mr. Alden familiarized himself with the updated employee handbook." แต่ถ้าคนไม่ใช่ประธาน ก็ใช้ him แทน สิ่งที่ควรระวังเพิ่มเติมคือ his สามารถใช้ได้แบบยืนเดี่ยว เช่น "The blue bag is his." และคำที่ลงท้ายด้วย -self ต้องตรงกับจำนวนคน เช่น himself (คนเดียว), themselves (หลายคน) โดยส่วนตัว วิธีนี้ทำให้ผมทำข้อสอบเร็วขึ้นและมั่นใจมากขึ้นครับ ที่สำคัญการฝึกฝนจากแบบฝึกหัดหมวดสรรพนามใน bleq.app ช่วยให้เข้าใจแนวทางนี้ดีขึ้นมาก แนะนำว่าควรอ่านและทำแบบฝึกหัดซ้ำๆ จะเห็นว่าการเลือกใช้ his, him หรือ himself ใน Part 5 ไม่ใช่เรื่องยากเลย
