... Read moreBeyond just picking the perfect pens, diving into Bible journaling truly transformed my personal study time. I remember when I first started, I was so intimidated by the thought of 'messing up' my Bible! But once I embraced it, it became one of the most fulfilling ways I connect with scripture. If you're looking to start your own 'hand writing bible' journey or wondering what else to include in your 'bible journaling kit', let me share some of my personal insights. First off, while great pens like my beloved Pilot Frixion O.S. and Mildliners are a fantastic start for avoiding bleed-through, a complete Bible journaling kit can make the experience even richer. Beyond pens and highlighters, consider adding a few other essentials. A good set of fine-tip markers (always test them first!) can add variety to your handwriting and illustrations. Washi tape is another personal favorite; it's perfect for sectioning off notes, adding decorative borders, or even attaching small prayer cards without damaging the page. Don't forget some fun stickers and stencils! These are brilliant for adding quick visual elements or highlighting key verses when your artistic skills (like mine!) need a little boost. And for those deeper dives or sermon notes that need more space, a separate journaling notebook specifically for overflow thoughts connected to your Bible study is invaluable. When it comes to the act of 'hand writing bible' notes, don't feel pressure to have perfect calligraphy from day one. My biggest tip is to simply start! I began by just writing down key verses or short prayers in the margins. Over time, as I grew more comfortable, I started experimenting with different lettering styles for headings or important words. I've found that the physical act of writing helps me slow down and truly meditate on the scripture in a way that just reading doesn't always achieve. To keep your handwriting neat in those precious margins, I often use a very light pencil first, especially for longer notes, and then go over it with my Pilot Frixion pens. The erasable ink is a lifesaver for any little mistakes! Another practical tip for journaling is to establish a routine. For me, it's often early in the morning with a cup of coffee, or sometimes late at night after the kids are asleep. Find what works for you, even if it's just 10-15 minutes. It's not about how much you write, but the intention behind it. I've also learned to use my Mildliner highlighters strategically – not just to highlight text, but to color-code themes or emotions I find in the scripture. For instance, one color for promises, another for commands, and another for prayers. This makes looking back through my Bible so much more insightful. Ultimately, Bible journaling is a deeply personal and spiritual practice. It's about engaging with God's word, making it your own, and creating a tangible record of your faith journey. So gather your supplies, don't be afraid to make your mark, and enjoy the process of letting scripture speak directly to your heart through your own 'hand writing bible' notes.
